no degree - working as a contractor

Long story short.

Offered a job, don't have a degree (I'm in a very specialist field), company is willing to take me on as a contractor though which somehow gets around this.

Has anyone else done this?

Any feedback on any disadvantage I may be at would be appreciated.

I have a wife, son and two small dogs. Would obviously want to bring them all over.

Have lived overseas before so 'get'the expat lifestyle.

This is the first time I've ever HAD to have a degree to get into a country even though there is no degree available in what I do - and no I'm not going to say what it is, but it's nothing dodgy.

Thanks in advance

as long as you're from the UK, thats what matters

No I doubt it. It's not like the UK where the rules are the rules, wasta or influence can override the whole process.

Yes, I'm from the UK.

The role would be with a government owned company, and I know their internal rules are pretty tough.

So you really don't think it will be any issue?

The company will take care of it. I assume you're a westerner so it won't be a problem. Nationality plays a big part in immigration decisions.

I'd be acting as a consultant. Probably looking to do three years.

I was originally going to take a management position, but the degree stopped that.

Since I'd be a consultant I'm assuming I'll just be on a flat rate rather than a package. Not a problem if I have to do a bit of my own admin.

Any ideas on how the rest of the visa would work? I've been told Qatar employment law can be pretty tough.

Some GCC countries have really tighten the rules of expats having degrees, especially for management position. (except for John McDoggal but hes a special case)

However as with everything here companies can get around the requirement so I wouldn't worry about it.
