New to Doha/Education City and seeking advice

Hi,

I wanted some advice. I recently moved to Doha from the UK with my husband and two children (3 year old and 7 month old), we are living in Education City. I wanted to know if children need to be registered with a GP here? In the UK we tend to have regular reviews on your childs development and I wondered how I should go about this for my children, particularly my 7 month old.

Also, any advise on a good school for my 3 year old? I have been looking at Qatar Academy, does anyone have first hand experience with this school.

kind regards

Aisha

Thank you for your response, this has been helpful. I'm waiting for my RP and I guess once I have this I can check out my local health centre.

Aisha: You do not need to get registered with a GP here. Once you get your RP you will be entitled to a health card which you could use at the designated government-run health centres. These centres have very nominal charges both for consultation and medicines. Alternatively, Doha has many private clinics and it is difficult to suggest any names as many factors in selecting one gets involved. These could include cost or the distance from one's residence as an example. Most clinics would charge you around QR 100 as consultation fee but there are others who charge much higher or lower. You do not usually need to arrange for an appointment with any doctor at such clinics. You could just walk in during their working hours and get to see a doctor after a short waiting period. As for schools, you may have to look around as there are so many of them including some managed by British nationals. Also, I hear there is usually a long waiting list at these schools with regards to admissions. Trust this helps.
