Need to convert to Qatari driving license but lost my original UK license. Ideas anyone?

When I arrived in Doha I had my original UK license. I had a bump in the car in the first couple of weeks and went to Madinat Khalifa Police. They forgot to give me my license back and when I realised and went to get it they had lost it.

Now my residency permit has come through I need to get a Qatari license but I don;t have my original UK one.

Is there anything they will accept other than my original license?

E.G.

A copy sent directly from the DVLA (driving license authority in the UK) by fax to the Police here?

A copy from the traffic police who lost my license when I bumped the car (they should still have a copy on file)?

Desperate for ideas...someone....

i think its not a problem, u go to them with the second item u wrote, and see there reply, it could work.
