My Neighbors Dog

Fawmy85
By Fawmy85

My neighbors leave their dog tied up outside all day and it's apparently schizophrenic cuz it stares into the woods and barks at leaves. It wouldn't be so bad if it occasionally shut up, but I clocked it one day, 5.5 hours straight. I'm losing my mind listening to this retarded beast. I get off work and I'd like to relax, but no, I get to hear barking for 5 hours. I need a clandestine way to make the dog stop barking. Suggestions?

There are no-bark systems on the market that you can purchase. The system detects the sharp, loud barking noise and sends out a signal (virtually inaudible to us) that is not comfortable for the dog's hearing. It's a simple "learned response" tool - the dog learns that his ears hurt after he barks, so he stops barking.

My cousin used one when he had a similar problem with his neighbors and the dog stopped barking almost immediately. Here's a similar unit: http://www.petsafebarkcontrol.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=5

Maybe a bit awkward to go to my neighbors and ring the outside gate (standalones here, not compound) and offer to walk their dog at 3am because he needs some attention.

I am not suggesting I hate dogs, not do I think it is my responsibility to look after someone elses pet. If I wanted to walk someones dog I would get one of my own.

I have a cat who is well taken care of. I make sure he doesnt go out and crap in my neighbors garden or tear up his flower beds and I dont think it is too much to ask for them to take their dog in at night so he doesnt howl and bark all night and keep us and the other half dozen people who live in the vicinity awake. ____________________________________________________

this is a favoured solution here, throw poisoned meat over the wall, I've known it to happen here a long time ago.

Others might think the owners might be the target here!

Can anyone tell me how this is acceptable? I remember when birds got into the City Centre Mall when it opened there was a prohibition on killing them. One BulBul Family nested near the Eli France cafe on the 3rd floor and did not bother anyone too much living on crumbs and spillages this was an addition to the dining experience rather than a problem.

dogs are pack animals, Konrad Lorenz calls the relationship between man and dogs the Oldest Covenant.

They adopted us long before civilisation arose and will be with us to the end of civilisation. Dogs wish to be part of a wider group and will communicate this to the world in the only way they know, by barking if they are tied up all day to try to establish recognition. I notice that discovery channel has many many programs about people fighting animal cruelty in UK US South Africa etc.whats the chance for an Arabian based animal rescue programme? Al Jazeera are u listening?

My dogs respond to particular Muezzins by joining in and howling! Not all only some! But generally when a dog barks he is warning the rest of the pack of a potential threat and the others to stay away. He is not qualified to distinguish between innocent and guilty and responds to the owners response to such threats.

I wish dog studies were on the curriculum as people would learn about the best side of human behaviour rather than be terrified of the most useful ally we have had in the whole of human history, I'm including cows sheep etc. here as we could never had domesticated these without the aid of dogs to guard them. Make friends with your neighbours dog, he will respond to you, wish there was a law here to allow people who treat animals like that to be prosecuted!

I think perhaps the owners should wear the chock collar and be zapped everytime they neglect to take the dog in when it is barking.

Honestly, they leave it outside at night so it doesnt disturb THEM.

Get your neighbors to purchase or you purchase for them a anti-bark collar. Little electric therapy works wonders.

there is also the spray citronella collars but they are not as effective..\

I say shock the schizophrenic dog. May help its mental condition as well.

Poor Dog! What might he be thinking?

"One looser started staring at me all the day long and even throwing food disrespectfully...Dogs, I tried to shout at him for his misbehavior..I cried, yelled, sweared..but all in vain..And that bugger gave me a 'BAD LOOK' all the day, u know what i mean??..whuff"

I've got a dog, few yrs ago,,, in our flat,,, it bark's but not to disturb,,,, others... she's so quite,,, she don't even know how to walk in d stairs...,,

until she heard a dog crying/ barking from outside...then she start to bark every night...

We were given: Two hands to hold. To legs to walk. Two eyes to see. Two ears to listen. But why only one heart? Because the other was given to someone else. For us to find.

What about those of us in stand alone villas mj? Why is it any different to expect that people will be responsible pet owners and keep their pets quiet just as you expect your neighbors not to have music blaring all the time?

Hardly a solution, kind of fits in with that "If you dont like it leave" mentality.

dogs bark because they're dogs... maybe you should think about moving to some building or compound where pets are not allowed.. then you'll have your quiet time..

Thing in stealth, the poor dogs will probably bear the blunt of neglectful owners. I dont mind if the dog is barking during the day but keeping the dogs out at night is just selfish and stupid.

Seriously.... The dog is barking because

1) its tied up

2) its bored

Can someone tie the neighbors to a tree for the whole day and see how sane they will be at the end of it?

... is not the poor dog, which is tied up all day whatever the weather is. It is cruel of the owners to have a pet if they are gonna treat it that way. Try and talk to the owners first, make them aware of the fact that the poor dog can't be tied up all day barking. I would suggest you PM Chelsea about it, she will probably be able to give you some good advise.
