moving from New Zealand to Doha
By kiwiswithwings •
Hi,
My husband has been interviewed for a job paying $9000AUD/mth. Which I think equates to 30,000QAR.
We have 2 boys, a 13yo and 8yo.
Included in the contract is Accommodation, 80% of school fees, annual flights, transport allowance.
I'm a nurse and was hoping to not have to work initially to get the kids settled into schools etc as it looks like a challenge getting them into good ones.
Will this be enough for us to live on? And save some!
Thanks :o)
You need to sort out your tax status. You need to get in touch with IRD and make sure that you're non-resident for tax purposes. Otherwise they'll take all what you would have saved...
Thanks for your friendly reply!!! It's very reassuring to hear all the positives re family life in Qatar!
I'm thinking I too may work there, but will concentrate initially on getting the boys into school and then look at a local nursing contract somewhere.
I'll be sure to pm you if I have any further questions. Cheers!!!
HI fellow Kiwis! It would be enough to live and save taking into account your school fees and you not working. Of course it depends on if you will have any mortgage, etc to pay at home. You can live well here on half of that monthly salary. Be excited about your move -it's a good place for families. Good luck with your search for schools and if you need any advice on that side of thing then pm me =-)
Thanks for your reply!
Yes I see the waiting lists are huge for the good schools. Oh well. I think we'll cross that bridge when we get to it so to speak!
Thanks again
:o)
I think you'll be fine since accommodation is included. The most expensive schools run around QR65000 per year, so even at that the most you'd have out of pocket would be QR13,000 per child (or QR2,166 per month total).
Getting kids into a school will be your biggest challenge :(
Good luck with your move :)
