Moving From Glasgow to Doha

Hi All

I have accepted a job with Eldertree Nursery and will be moving out to Doha hopefully end of Sept. Has anyone heard anything i should know about Eldertree?

Also, got a few questions:

(1) What is public transport like? is it safe?
(2) What is there to do in Doha besides shopping and drinking?
(3) Is there good food shopping places?

I will be living in a shared apartment but my boyfriend has his own apartment and i know we cant live together so thats ok but someone says we should not show any affection towards each other while out and about i.e. like holding hands and hugging him when i arrive at the airport?? is this true??

I think i will have more questions but if anyone has any good advice to give me to prepare me for my move it would be very much appreciated.

Do you have a Qatari or international driving lience? if so just take it down to the car rental company, rent a car it is not you who is insured it is the car over here so not a hard process!

I moved my 2 year old son to Eldertree from Tinkerbells Nursery during July and August as Tinkerbells shuts down for the summer.

We ended up keeping him at Eldertree as we saw such a difference in him over the two months.

There's no other solution.

You'll wilt in the heat if you walk. It's not a walking kinda town.

Hi Natalie,

I believe you should simply have your own car. You can rent one and petrol is extremely cheap. You need an international driving licence I think.

Thanks for that. I am a bit nervous as my bf has said its so much smaller than what i am used to but Glasgow has now taken its toll on me and i am ready to take it easy somewhere nice and small.

Is it easier for me to walk to places rather than relying on public transport?? i think i am going to take a crash course in driving soon anyway.

(1) If by public transport you mean buses they are utilized mostly by laborers. You can find taxis but it's difficult to do it on the street (relatively long waits in hot weather).

(2) Eating, movies, pubs.

(3) You can find some Tesco and Waitrose branded items plus the usual stuff in terms of cereals, canned goods, Mars milk drinks. It's not a literal desert here, Natalie.

You can probably get away with holding hands. You can give him a hug when you arrive and a kiss on the cheek is fine. Keep the affection for indoors. He's not going anywhere here.

Great that you've gotten a job. Doha's not too bad; it's not a great metropolis but if you're prepared to settle in then you will.

Good luck.
