Moving to Doha? A few questions?

Hi
I've just been offered a job in Doha and have a few questions? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

As a single 27 year old western male, what is the nightlife like? Is there the opportunity to meet single western women like in Dubai?

As I dont know anyone in Doha- what is the best way to meet other expats?

What is the cost of Alcohol out in a bar/club?

What is the cost of a rental car? My package has allowed for 2,000R a month- is this sufficient?

Are there any organised sporting leagues in Doha? ie touch football comps etc?

Are there many gyms around? If so what is the approx monthly cost?

What are the main things to do in Doha on a weekend?

The nightlife is nothing like Dubai - very limited.

A lot of expats (girls) go to the Irish pub at the Sheraton Hotel, the W Hotel and the Ramada.

Two pints of beer at the Irish pub is around 75 riyals. A carton of Coronas at the Qatar Distribution Centre (bottle shop) is 150 riyals.

If you are working for QP (sounds like you are) you will meet other expats at work and probably form friendships. You will make Qatari friends too which is culturally enriching and entertaining!

I just hired a Corolla for 2600 a month from Budget.

QP also have private clubs too, which I know a lot of people go to, I haven't been though.

The expats at work will be able to answer your other questions.

My friend, the culture here in Qatar is not as advance (immodest) as in Dubai. May be you can find your target if you are specialist but it is rare.

If your monthly budget including all expenses (as mentioned in your question) is QR 2000, i would like to inform you that if you are going to hire a good car (honda cit or corrolla) its only rent will be QR. 2200-2400.

Other expenses are approx. as follows:

Fooding - QR. 1200-1500

Housing - QR. 5000-7500 (two room set).

Others - QR. 1000

Gyms can be expensive. I'm sure you're used to paying around $50/month. Here you have few options like joining a hotel club or a gym. The hotel clubs can be over $1000 usd a year, same with the better gyms and you have to join for a year long membership. Your best bet is to move into a compound or apartment building with their own gym.
