Hi all, I am moving to qatar. I have a motorbike and a car license in the UK. Is it easy to get a motorbike license in Qatar. What is the process and costs.

I also have the opportunity to bring my motorbike from the UK to Qatar (shipping paid by my employer). What is the process and costs associated with this.

Or is it better for me to sell my bike here in the UK and then buy a new one when I get to Qatar. Are motorbike generally cheaper in Qatar than the UK?

Would really appreciate any advice / help.

thanks

I just moved here two weeks ago still only got temp RP however I got my car licence changed by company and paid 150 QAR to get bike licence no test required. I have just asked for an online quote from http://dynamic.spartandigital.co.uk so now awaiting response. I am looking at shipping a 2006 KTM 950 adventure. I did see something about paying 3400qar registration required here can someone confirm this  ? Also something to do with having vehicle document V5 being attested by uk traffic department also can someone confirm this ? I would have thought registering as permenant export through DVLA would cover this. Please someone who has gone through the process enlighten us.

I am considering importing my bike as well but worried about the heat while geared up?  I am not accustomed to riding without my gear and even here in DC during the summer months, the heat can be pretty bad while geared up and can only imagine what its like in Doha.  Is it safe ot ride in Doha on a bike?  I wouldn't dare ride my bike in India and have heard the traffic in Doha is somewhat on the crazy side?

I don't know much about getting Qatari driving license using your UK license. But, about the motorbike test, assuming that you're a rider, it's piece of cake. First part - traffic signs, which is common to all. Then one have to ride inside the premise ( few posts - the zig zag thing) and do a circle. That's it. It wil cost QR.900 for a new license (motorbike)which includes 15 days classes. Since you already have a license from another country, you can give a direct test, which might cause you few hundred riyals. But, everything might change in few months. It's not clear what the new requirements will be.Importing your bike - it's upto you. A friend of mine bought his first bike from the UK and imported it, so I assume it's not a hassle.Cost - here it depends on the brand. Suzuki is by far the best (in my opinion), in price, resale value, ,maintainance. Honda, Kawasaki follows, stay away from Yamaha. Triumph, Ducati, KTM - cost of maintaining a bit higher (again, my opinion).Harley - They also have authroised dealer and people seem to be happy with them. They have a riding group and so on (not my area of interest)There are few riding groups and you have Losail Internation Circuit, if you are interested in track days. p.s: Don't assume that summer is the riding season, it's the opposite here. Everyone rides in the winter and go for vaccation in the summer. It's really hard to survive in the summer with only bike since the temp can reach upto 50-53c . You have to have a car.  Hope it helps
