Good day, everyone!

We are all set to move in to Doha in October (first week) and would greatly appreciate hearing from you what you think is the most important advice you can give to someone who is new in the country. Be it about culture, driving, mum and baby stuff, malls, restos, banking, nanny services, events etc. etc. What to observe or avoid, what to bring or not bring, where to go.....

Thanking you all in advance!!!

P.s.
We are a family of 3. My husband and I have a 7 month old baby. :)

'Malling' is also dangerous. 19 dead at the Villagio Mall because of negligence from both the operators and the government authorities!

Groceries here are ~double than UAE.

One piece of advice, go for 4x4 for the safety of your family.

If you came from Saudi, don't be surprised at the cost of your groceries and necessities. I was also surprised and had to raise our budget a lot...

If you came from UAE, then no problem...

Welcome to Qatar!

Be very Very patient dont get qtel mobile contract its actually pay as you go, expect to wait months for internet access, expect to see crushed accident cars every day on the roads, expect rude people on the roads, people driving erratic and fast getting irrate yet its a hot supposed to be relaxing country and expect shocking customer service. Its a nice place though!

is always to have patience.... Things here may frustrate you or your husband, family visa, driving, congested supermarkets / malls. Always look at the positive side and that you are with your family... A lot of people here in Qatar does not have that kind of privilege or benefit...

If you've been in the GCC before, then there is nothing to worry about.

Just don't be caught drunk out in the street.

Oh sorry. It is not our first time in the GCC. We are very much on the laid-back type of activities. We prefer dining out in restos, just simple malling and we would very much be interested in swimming pools or any place convenient for a family with a baby.

Sorry, but without any idea of your frame of reference (first time abroad, first time in the GCC,etc) or even an inkling of what your expectations or preferences are - it is extremely difficult to give you any information.
