Mobile phones, Internet and television
Hi there
I am moving with my wife and son to Doha in January 2013.
I would like to ask anyone who knows, how quick or difficult it is to get up and running with mobile phones and also if I speak to our landlords about getting the Internet at our new home or is this done by ourselves? And what do I need to set up for tv channels in Doha?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
One does not need Land lords permission to get land line + ADSL.
Bring an unlocked phone (that uses a normal sim card) with you. You can get a pre-paid (pay as you go) Hala(service name) sim from Qtel in the arrivals terminal after customs on production of your passport. Once you get your RP, you can keep the number and change to Shawry (service name, 30day rolling contract). With regard to QTEL landline and internet, you can get a pre-paid dongle initially, then again once you have a RP you can get QTEL landline and broadband connected. Dont hold your breath regarding how quick they do it though, we've been here for a couple of months, had my Rp for 6 weeks and still havent got broadband. You will have to get permission from your landlord, but this shouldnt be a problem. Hope this helps
Ok thanks for the reply
We will be based in the east of Doha It was one of the small questions I never thought when out there getting sorted out. Are all phones pay as you go or are there contracts available?
Thanks
Many thanks sidhingra. With all the big things you need to do with moving you forget about these small ones so thank you
As you land in doha withing 20 days you will get your RP then you can take phone connection and internet and cable connection from QTEL.. QTEL is the best
Many thanks
