Means of Transport
Hi
I am a UK National hopeful of relocating myself and my family to Qatar within the next 6 months, I understand the employment and visa aspects of coming to Qatar, I am just seeking some clarification of some other questions I have regarding relocation. I need little help with regards to purchasing of cars.
Is it possible for Ex-Pats to get a loan or finance to purchase used cars in Qatar? Or would all purchases need to be made outright?
CJ
Thanks folks, much appreciated :)
In addition, if you're buying used, be very very very picky about getting a full service history on the vehicle.
There are a lot of people here who do not maintain their cars well and the temperatures (and poor driving habits) take a BIG toll on vehicles. Also, if you're buying used the seller is usually leaving the country so you can't even go back and yell at him if you have problems.
Buying used from a dealer is no guarantee either - ask around your colleagues at work when you get here for advice, most of us who have been here for a while can give you some good tips on what to look out for and what to look for.
That said, I bought used from a UK teacher who was moving on to Dubai - I've been very pleased with my purchase (which I found here at QL)

Check with your company first as you will need a letter from them anyway to open a bank account etc.
Some banks like you to have an account for 3 months before they will offer you a loan, and you need residence which can take that long anyway. Also you will most likely have to do 3 months probation, so consider renting when you first arrive.
Note: on a decent Brit salary you should be able to save enough in the first 3 months to afford to buy a decent car outright :o)
e.g. just taken from QL classified section: 2006 BMW 320I FOR 62,000 QR FINAL PRICE
