Married Couples Working for the same Company

Hi guys,

I have been offered an opportunity to come and work in Qatar. I would be bringing my wife with me. The question is; would my wife be able to apply to work for the same company as me? I will have no involvement in recruitment, she will be applying for a very similar role as me as we are both qualified for this job.

Does this pose a problem in Qatar?

Regards

It depends on the firm. Some firms have a company policy of not employing spouses.

i have married couple in my company working together, then they were opted for one of them to stay and other to leave, the reason is, they never stopped fighting :S

if you can keep your last night problems home, then i think it's ok ;)

My hubby's company doesn't allow couples to work together. It might be best to double check, because it probably depends on each individual company. To be honest, I wouldn't want to work with him, I love him with all my heart but I couldn't work together, LOL ;-)

My friends (married couple) work together in one engineering company, same department, same room.... ))) They didn't have any problem with that. Just make needed documents, that's all.

My wife and I both work for the same company here. No issues with Qatar Labor Law however you need to check your company policy on any potential 'conflict of interest' issues if in the same branch/department

she can work even under your sponsorship but only she has to do is to get a work permit.

So it seems like it is much the same as european law in which it is legal but company policy may overall. Thank you all for your quick response. I will get on the phone to the company itself.

In terms of visa, my wife would be out there under my visa, but I am sure if that is not adequate the company can choose to employ her under her own right. Is that correct?

No problem at all if husband and wife works in the same company but both should have a work permit to be legal employees, otherwise you will be out from the country and your company will be fined by the labor dept.

It purely depends on the company's internal policy though it does not have any regulation on the Qatar Labour Law. Btw, My company does not allow couples to work together.

But few companies like QP allow couples to work but in different departments. And if you are planning to marry someone from the company you work, either of them should quit their job, according to my company policy.

Is it different if you work for the same company and then get married? Or are there different laws/ business ethics if you are applying to a company your husband already works for?

Thank you for the quick responses, just would like to clarify this a little more if possible.

I think Qatar will never mind if you and your wife will work in the same company

We have a married couple working in our company so shouldn't be a problem.
