The management of my flat is not doing the maintenance, what should I do?
We have been renting our flat in musherib for almost 10 months now. In the ads and in the "english" contract it was fully furnished and the maintenance is part of it. Before we moved to the flat last year, the agent told us to give the commission and then they would start fixing all the problems in the flat, paint, fix the locks, drainages and all. We gave him the commission and he said to wait after 3 days and all should be fixed. When we moved, nothing was fixed. They kept on promising after that they would fix it and again nothing was done. We just had to live with it. We had called them several times and we just got really fed up.
Just last August, we were informed that the building was bought by a company "B" and said they would take over the contracts and building and all. We had high hopes that things would be better. I called up the guy and he made some promises. After we gave him the new cheques under their name, he said that they are not gonna fix the problems because maintenance is not part of the contract as the "arabic" clause differs from the "english". The arabic says it's the tenants' responsibility.
Now, the A/C is dead (2 A/Cs) and he said that we would have to replace them ourselves because that's not part of the contract. The manager is very rude and non-approachable. He would not pick up the phone lately. Apparently, he's a lawyer :(
I need help or opinion of anyone. Is there anyone I can refer this matter to? I would been fine ok if i were alone, but I am with family and 2 babies.
Send a certified letter to your landlord from your company stating you are unsatisfied with their service and you will be vacating the premises in 60 days. Then go to the police station and tell them you need a police report to bring to the bank stating you want to put a stop payment on your checks. Since the A/C was there prior to you moving in and your unable to take the A/C with you, you shouldn't be responsible for them. If you only lived there less than 3 month you should be able to leave the premises immediately. Go to the police station and request a report to stop all your checks. Make sure you remove all your personal belongings. Move out and make sure to request company housing. I don't think an attorney would jeopardize ruining his name if this ever ended up in court.
If its a one year contract, you into 10 months of it then look out for another. Waste of time and resources fighting this.
Btw which apartments are these - at least others should not fall into the same trap. Is it the 10 floor buildings in Mushareib near Jaidah..
