International School in Doha
Hi everybody,
I'm next to move to Doha in January or, at latest, next February.
I need to move my daughter, who is at the moment attending the first primary class in Italy, to a good international school considering that at the moment she doesn't speak English and that she will be forced to interrupt her class in Italy to move to Doha in the middle of the year.
I'd say that this is going to be quite challenging for a child.
I already contacted Compass and Qatar International Schools but they both seem to be already full. Furthermore while Compass told me that not knowing English is not supposed to be a problem because they will take care of this point, at Qatar International school they seem not to provide such attention to the problem.
Any hint?
Which school would you suggest me to have my daughters in? Yes, I have two more: one is 4 y.o. and the other 14 months old.
Thank you all for your help and support!
After my experience, ACS is a business school more than education... a few teacher's are good but lots have no experience and can't cope with the curriculum.. Some parents are running the school as well as the teachers, and some teachers are running the principals....Lots of favortism...Teacher's and admin pretend to be nice infront of the new students and parents, but this is not true at all..
Try doha College. Definitly Stay away from international school of london. I
The international school of london is one of most expensive schools in Doha and yet the worst by far. Everyone i know attending the international school of London in Doha is about to leave the school.
Poor education and a total waste of our kids time to send them to this school. Stay away of this school and try other ones. Such as Global, Doha College, DESS.
We and our friends had a terrible experience in regards to learning. Some of us managed to send the kids to other school and some are looking for places for their kids.
Thank you Minoush
I have a lot of friends who could not get their kids into ASD. (Either due to lack of space or they couldn't pass the assessment test.) So far they are very happy with ACS.
Good. ACS seems to be a good one but, again, Stripeslvr feedback would be highly appreciated, thank you.
Hi Saxtor,
I am also currently investigating schools, and so far ACS is the only school that appears to have spaces available at the moment.
Unfortunately, being a new school, I haven't been able to get much feedback about it.
Stripeslvr: would you mind sharing your experiences/impressions with us? Would be most appreciated!
You have the best chance at getting into ACS or Compass. ASD won't take an ESL child unless absolutely no one else is on the list. They will bump your child for a non-ESL student.
ACS should have plenty of room. I'm surprised that Compass is telling you they are full. They have 2 campuses.
... sigh ... got it thanks !!!
Which ever one you can get a place at !
Serioulsy you will need to apply to several schools in the hope of getting a place from one of them . As they are so popular you might not have any choice
... and which one would you suggest among these all?
Sherborne also take kids with ESL
Thank you very much you all. I will try to get information on Motessori and the American school as well other that Compass that at the moment seems to be full.
Many thanks !
Hi, try American Community School of Doha, ACS Doha International School. My kids go there and I know they have ESL,or english as a second language. We've been told by the Principal that coming this January they will be adding one additional class for every grade. They might be able to help you. Their website is ACS-schools.com or google it if I am incorrect but they are british schools with an American curriculum that just opened their 4th school here in Doha this past September. Good Luck!
Montessori British School
Yes, Compass International School has a friendly environment.
If I were you, I'd put her on a waiting list for Compass, as they are the only international school, to my knowledge, who accept children with no English language skills .
But, ask your question here www.expatwoman.com there are a lot of ladies who have kids the age of yours.
