Importing a Car to Qatar

Hi People
We will be relocating to Doha in June. Initially we were thinking of buying a second hand car for my wife however, as we just finished paying off our Ford Escape we thought maybe it would be good to import that into Doha for my wife to use.

Car is 2 years old and is currently in Philippines.

Can anyone tell me the details of importing the car? Should we expect to pay large import tax on the car in Doha or is it classified as used personal item and duty free?

Does Ford have good service backup in Doha etc?

Hope to hear soon.

Cheers

yes, if you plan to go back to philippines, then keep it there but to a trusted person but i would suggest for you to just buy one here.

less the hassle.

cars driven here need to be built on GCC specifications or u'll have running and spares problems, the import duties are big if car is from out of GCC, end of the day , u'll end up spending a lot of money (that is if u manage to get it here!).

Bro ang ford escape mo pang car lift lang rito...mahal pa magagastos mo pagdadala rito kesa bili! Maniwala ka!

O nagbibiro ka lang?

o gusto mo lang sabihin na may kotse ka sa pinas?

I think if you save that money, you have good options here to buy rather than import that elephant corpse and pay for it and then battle with local dealer to get it repaired if required.

Further here you find more japanese cars than US brands so the parts and service availability is too obvious. I mean I know someone who had to wait one month without any car provided by Mercedes in Doha as they did not had parts.

this is my personal take, may be other members have their own view but in the end the decision is yours. I can only share my experience which is come light and go light from and to your home country.
