that is normal here in qatar, when i was new, i got hematoma too. and i am a dark skinned person. a week later, they asked for another sample. The same guy drew blood by using the same wound.
This is not normal but it happens....I would say you had a dodgy person taking the blood!!! I watched very carefully to make sure they didn't reuse the needle!!
The ONLY person to have made a comment of some sense here so far is rdsouza & that was meant as a joke!...@ nicosa, you are spot on in asking,MOST people get one after their blood is drawn @ the Medical Commission, sad part is,most people here think it's normal!...anyways,you are right in that there is the RIGHT way to draw blood that DOES NOT result in a hematoma...PROVIDED it is done by someone who knows what they are doing,as would be the case in your home country...a hemotoma after drawing blood is NOT AT ALL normal if the procedure is done by someone who knows what the hell they are doing, unfortunately, that is not the case with the people employed to do this at the Medical Commission, not only are they rude, they also obviously lack sufficient & proper training...for information's sake,a hematoma is caused when the needle goes through the vessel instead of being inside it,because a) a butterfly needle wasn't used or b) the needle was pushed too hard by someone who does not know what they are doing, this causes blood to pool under the skin, tends to be painful or at least cause some discomfort, rub it down with ice & it should go away in a few days, worst case scenario, minor surgery to release the pooled blood...good luck...

I bought Hirudoid cream. It was gone after about 10 days.I posted it here to know if many people get it at the RP exam.I did many blood exams back home and rarely got a hematoma, mainly never as big as this one. I suppose there is a correct way to draw blood...
