Genoa or Doha?

Dear all, I hope there is someone out there who can help me make a decision between moving to Doha or Genoa for work.
I am a UK national, recently been offered a job with an American Company in Doha, but the salary was not negociable. They offered me accomodation, transport and return ticket home, 21 days holidays and they promissed that the salary will be reviewed after the 3 months probation period. Today, I got another job offer from the university of Genoa, with a similar salary as the one offered in Doha, and almost the same package, except with this one, I will be working in my field and the opportunities to grow are 100%.
What shall I do? the Company in Doha has already started my visa procedure, can I turn the offer down and stay within the EU-continent?
Please, advise

Please read the contract first as it can be altered anytime, anywhere and do not take unnecessary risk by throwing yourself in uncertainty situation.

Make your way clear before you land here. Qatar is a land of all possibilites. So, get yourself ready and weigh the benefits and risks nicely and play safe !

Qatar = more money

Genoa = Europe

What is more important to you at this stage?

Dear all,

Thanks ever so much for your very informative advice.

Black listed? I have never thought it will be this severe! I understand it is a hussle for them as much as it is for me to accept such offer; I will look into it.

The other thing, I wanted to know:" is it possible to leave this position in Doha, after probation period? in other words giving notice 1 month before the end of probation period?" knowing that the contract is indefinite

Please note that I have requested a copy of the contract, three weeks ago, but the HR has not emailed it yet, instead, they made me refill my Security Application form three times now, so I don't really know if all this is a good sign or not? They also mentioned that the contract will be signed once I am in Doha.

As you can see, I am a bit worried about all this as I have never worked abroad and this is being my first time.

Please let me know what you think

Regards,

Genoa is a beautiful city and that part of the world has a lot culture to offer, not to mention good food and possibilities to travel easily if you have a car and summers are beautiful.

Doha has a lot to offer too if you are a little adventurous and can take the heat in the summer. It is growing at a fast pace and gives an incite to the culture if you are really interested. Doha has a wonderful Corniche where, when it is not so hot many people spend their time.

Dubai Oman and Bahrain are very near. There are desert trips nad nice beaches and many other sport activities on offer.

Salaries are seldom revised at least not in the three years I have been here.

Cost of living goes up by the week and food prices have nearly doubled since last year.

Although a law for the hike on rents has been implemented it is like a swiss cheese with many holes and any landlord with a brain manages to slip through.

You must acquire an exit permit everytime you want to leave the country, and depending on your length of contract it may not be renewed when it expires.

Traffic in Qatar takes a little getting used to and has a great deal aggressive drivers on the roads.

However, there is QL and it's members have a great deal of information to offer not to mention aan active social group with an abundance of activities.

I just want to be honest.... my opinion would be stay in EU and you will get better life there.

It does not mean no life in Qatar but life here somewhat diff and you may not be able to adjust it or simply take longer time than usual or you may end up with a lot of frustrations,etc.

so, think more than twice or even more than 1000 times before you ink anything.

Good luck buddy!

Of course you can turn the job down. If that is what you want. Are you worried that they started the process already? No problem. The only problem is that you will never be able to get a job from them. In Doha or anywhere else in the world as you will be put on their black list! Choose what you want is best for you.
