If you are on visit visa you can obtain temporary license from Traffic dept. If you are on working visa then you need to get Qatari driving license which is valid for 5 years and is renewabale.
You can convert your license like a trade in, but you need proper driving license application with all necessary documents like letter from your employer. After completing your application proceed to traffic Dept and you can get Qatari License without Test.
I have converted my Australian License into Qatari License last month.
P.S Traffic Dept is in Madinat Khalifa area.

Just like the UK, women of any nationality can drive in Qatar. In best case scenario, your UK license could simply get converted to a Qatari driver's license, otherwise, you might have to take a few mandatory classes and a road test. It just boils down to who you know. My US license was simply converted over the counter for a 5 year license.
