Do I need a Qatari driver's license?
Hi all,
I want to find out if I need a Qatari driver's license to drive in Qatar. I already have a Lebanese license and an International one. I'm gonna be in Qatar for at least the next couple of years and I have already issued my residency permit. If it makes any difference at all, I am of American nationality. If it turns out that I do need to get a Qatari license then do I have to go to traffic school or take a driving test or anything?
Thanks for your help :)
Zayd, I don't speak from experience because I converted my license and, therefore, didn't have to do the test.
A friend of mine did and he failed the first time. I think you have to take lessons before you take the test but I stand to be corrected here. As far as I know, you should not drive until you can get your Qatari license. I know a lot of people do, but you always run the risk of the police not accepting your international license. In that case, if you get into an accident, the insurance might not pay for the damage.
thanks for all your help guys...this driving test, is it hard? will i have to attend some driving school before i can take it? and can i drive in the meantime?
Yes, you have to have a Qatar license if you have an RP. If you have an American license I know you just have to swap it over and take the eye test and pay the fee and no driving school is required in that case.
If you have American license I don't think you need to go for driving test, just eye test.
But if you only have a Lebanese license, then you'll need to go for driving lessons and then a test.
