Are there any bugs (Mosquitoes / Snakes / Other pests) that my family should be aware of before we arrive in a few weeks time?

for the past 20 years all qatari citizens did not pay for electricity, so its actually been free to freeze our home all this time!

If it had cost money i am sure my mother would have opted for the alternative method of creating a vaccum that suffocates all living things inside the house...or something along that mad-scientist pattern of thought.

That is a good theory to spend your hard earn cash in a enormous electric bill every month, specially for 20 years. You must be A SHEIK to be spending that kind of money on one electrical bill.

I live with my parents and my mother has a theory that if the house is below freezing temperature then no insects or pests will ever come into it. I must say her theory must have some truth to it because we have never had any for the past 20 years!! However the flaw in her plan was the misery this freezing temperature is causing to the Human residents of the house!!

If you thought it was cold the past few days then for us it was still warmer to sit outside the house to stay warm!!

We had a centipede in the kitchen a couple of weeks ago. They feed on flies and roaches, so it should have been predictable, I guess. Apparently, they have a nasty bite, but this one didn't survive long enough to demonstrate ;)

If you haven't experienced it yet I think you will find that there is a variety of house fly in Qatar that bites.....and draws blood.

Stupid kind of mosquitoes that don't seem to suck blood exist in some areas during winter time (because of rain lakes everywhere), and at that time they are so many, you'll lose your mind, and average 10.5 KMPD (Killed Mosquitoes Per Day). LOL

There are a lot of crawlies everywhere and a few pest control companies. My experience is that I get spray done at my house approx. every three months which costs around 150-200 and I sleep in peace for that period but they come back after three months so I have to get spray done again.

No spiders yay!! I'm a shocking arachnophobe- very happy with the absence of pests here.

Ants, ants and more ants. I think I have about 3 varieties in my house in various locations at any one time. The concrete just isn't sealed up very good. I'm waiting patiently for my husband to find me some silicon caulk and I'm going to go around the house like a mad woman. Not like I'm living in an ant bed or anything, just random strays all over the place. Totally frustrating!
