I'm not sure but if you open an HSBC account in the UK and have local qatar account with HSBC here you are eligible for some free transfers (unlimited free transfers between HSBC accounts). This was the benefit they were offering me when i needed to open a local account.

Check with Qatar HSBC. You may have to open an account with HSBC though in the UK.

it is a flat rate regardless amount your receive or send arnott.

we sometimes wait few months then transfer lump sum, but for the past years the exchange rate going down the other way around. :-(

is that a flat rate per transaction or is a percentage of what you transfer?

we used Doha Bank here and Barclay in the UK. 35 Riyal they charged from here and another 6 quid charged by Barclay for receiving it.
