Hello everyone on this great site. I have arrived in Doha and am settling in slowly. I found most people in my company are renting cars rather than buying. Can anyone please tell me what the benefits are? And what is the average rate of renting a car for one month?
Thanks to all, King Edshel, Qatari and Novita for your answers on benefits of car rentals. Very helpful. It turns out the company has some sort of deal with a rental agency.
Novita, I am coping fine so far with the heat. But the problem is the cold at work, due to high AC. Everyone has shawls and jumpers on inside. It is really crazy..
The benefits of that would depend on your situation. If you are not going to stay here that much or just trying to see if you can settle down or stay here any longer then it would be better for you to rent a car.
1- No need to worry about the car maintenance or service, when the time come for that just take the car to the rental shop and they will provide you with another car until your car is done.
2- At any time you want to leave the company, you won't be tied up with a bank paying the loan before you leave the country.
3- No need to worry about the registration of the car and other related issues.
4- No need to worry about selling the car later and how much would you lose depending on the car model.
I can give you and approximate list of prices depending on the car model and the brand. All the cars are 2007 models and these prices are daily based:
1- Toyota Corolla – 90 Q.R
2- Toyota Camry – 150 Q.R
3- Honda City – 70 Q.R
4- Honda Civic – 90 Q.R
5- Honda Accord – 150 Q.R
6- Nissan Sunny – 90 Q.R
7- Mitsubishi Lancer – 80 Q.R
Those prices may vary from one rental car shop to another, it might be less or higher. The monthly prices for all the models would be falling into this range [1500 – 2000] Q.R The price would drop for each car [depends on] for like 20 Q.R if you will go with the monthly bases payment.
The benefits are that if you are only staying short term you're not stuck with a loan or car to sell. Plus, when you buy a new car it depreciates say 15% immediately - if you only stay for six months your rental may cost less than the 15% less (it all depends on the car you buy and rent).
Of course, if you're planning to stay for longer than 6 months it may be worth it to buy a car (even a second hand one). You can usually easily find a buyer for your car (especially if it is a Toyota or Nissan).
A rental can cost anything from QR65 per day (if you get a good deal) to QR200. Obviously the longer you take the car the cheaper rate you'll get.
I recommend browsing the Cars for Sale in Qatar page to guage market value.
