For my case, Qatar Foundation arranged temporary license, and then after RP, I converted that to permanent.

You can drive 6 months with international license from CAA.

Be careful about the eye test, if you can not read anything, just say anything real fast...the ladies there wont understand and will pass you.

you cannot drive here on any lisense other than qatari. my advice is to bring the internation DL for the first few months (not sure about QP giving a temporary DL, could be a true) , till your RP is issued, and then you will convert your canadian DL into qatari DL in 10 minutes, having an eye test prior to it.

That eye test is is a real hard one. You will see when you get here. State of the Art!!! I started with a temporary license and after my RP was done they changed it to regular licence. The procedure is the same for a temporary license. To change it is only paper work and a fee.

I have heard that QP,Qatar Gas, Ras Gas can give you temporary driving license until you get your RP. Is this true?

I converted my Canadian license to Qatari 3 days back. It is an one minute job. You need 250 riyals, copy of RP, a letter from the company and 2 passport photos. You have to go for an eye test, and then you are ready to exchange your license.

Till you get your RP, get an international license from CAA, because with Canadian license you can drive only for 7 days from the date of arrival.

What is the benefit of having international driving license?

For a Qatari license do I have to take any classes or driving test? or I can simply covert my Canadian license into Qatari license?

You can drive a rental on your Canadian one. International one is better. Once you have your RP you can switch to a Qatari license.
