It depends buddy, if you have a business or tourist visa you can drive with international license for maximum 6 monthes if you stay longer you have to contact traffic dept. but for the work vise you have to get a qatari DL from here as there is no way else, but the driving test will be more easier if you have a valid DL from your country , THis information are very accurate coz i got through all this

From my own experience, I my self used to have an International DL. its valid for 6 months here in Qatar although it says one year validity ( I asked the traffic department people myself). However, you can drive in qatar for 7 days only "starting from the day you enter the country as a visitor" with your country's driving Ls.

galloper48, I changed my NewZealand driving Ls on the spot and i didn't do to any test.

What I know is, if you have issued it here in Doha itself (while you already possess your Qatar Driving License) the international driving license will not be valid here.. you can use it anywhere else than Qatar.

But, if this was issue in another country, you can drive for Limited number of days...iam not sure how many.

why dont you consult some travel agencies here who do International Driving License for Qatar Drivers.

From my understanding : If you have a business or tourist visa International licence is valid for length of visa, once you have RP you have 7 days to convert to Qatar licence (european, US, Aus, SA licence direct swap, others require driving test)

Yes you can but only for 15 days after your entry date to Qatar.

Be careful, they can deport you if they catch you driving without a Qatari driving license.

You can drive for a limited number of days (not exceeding 2wks?) from your date of arrival in Qatar. However, you may not get insurance protection. Better get a temp. Qatar DL asap...

According to Marhaba book, yes you can. But not for long (guess is like 30-45 days) But as far as The traffic dept is concerned the Int'l Driving License doesn't give you too much support.

And by the way driving without Qatari Driving License is fined with up to 5000 QAR. Be careful...

If you have US license you can change it immediately for qatari driving license, other DL from other countries have to do driving test in order to get QDL.

Best regards
