birla pubic schoolv/s doha modern indian school
Dear QL members,
Good morning!! I have just moved in from Dubai and want to admit my child for grade 4 under cbse syllabi. Am not sure if birla is good or doha modern indian school?? Would be grateful if u members, with your kids in either school give me feed back on this. And the admissions are easily done , I hope!!
thanks for ur responses in advance.
i am sorry but the info you told about DPS is totally wrong.
cause i'm a dps student i know better!.
Ok coz D.P.S is going to shift to a new building which has a great security system so suggest you go there.
or else go to M.E.S
My both kids goto DMIS and they like the school very much ... very good timings for small kids (KG) they start at 9:00 and finish by 1:00 pm .
now a days its a bit hectic cos of the weather and they reach by 2:15 fully sweat ed ...
the KG teachers are very good, very co-operative and teaches in a very interesting way .. kids love to be at school ... their show n tell (every week) is unique when compared to other schools and builds up public speaking as early as KG ...they upload the necessary HW n stuff and all what they have taught in the week in web so its easy for parents of KG kids to teach the kids and be at par .. its not necessary that kids communicate every stuff taught at school to parents so that style makes it easy for parents.
Bus staff are very caring.
Well we are very happy with the setup for KG wing ... and i cant comment on higher classes.
The School is very neat, kids are taken care well, they dont come home with droopy nose and drool y face even when they are stuck with common cold.
Hope the system continues as is and improves further.
Hello Visuj
My kids are in British school in Dubai, but we didnt really come across British schools (in Doha) which really have Asian students and also most British school fees are close to 25k. Pl let me know your experience and thots?
Hello,
I am moving to Doha from UK in Apr 2009. My daughter is going to school here in London and I would like my daughter to continue in British syllabus school in Doha too. Appreciate if anyone can let me know about british syallabus/ teaching schools or similar in Doha.
Best Regards,
AK
god bless everyone
hi
my both the children plus my sister children are going to DMIS. till now i dont have any complaints. ya fees is little bit high but they hv extra activities and after noon lunch is also provided along with the day care which is good for mothers who are working.and student teacher ratio is also good. i have never checked teachers qualification but all teachers are so good and polite towards parents and also to the students who love to go to schooleveryday. at the end of the day it is ur decission where u want to put ur child. because everyone will have different opinion. few months back i was also thinking to change my childrents school because one of my friend shifted her children from DMIS to BPS. than within few weeks i was surprised to see one of my other friend changed her childs school from BPS to DPS. than i thought which ever school ur child will be going good education important but all above parents support is more important in taking their studies and talking to them about their daily activities. which ever school they might go if ur support is their for their studies than they will not have problem in any schools.
do u only need to send your child to a indian school or even if its a british school its ok??.Ill wait till you reply but i think in indian school dps is better and ill tell you about british school after i get the reply
a father who put his child in a british school
Very well done research work.
My suggestion is to stay away from MES my friend. Most teachers there don't have manners or courtesy. My friends brother was bullied by his own teacher. This monster teacher used to grab him by the collar and push the fist hard at the poor guys chest if he does or doesn't answer to some crazy questions. This was like he had some personal vengeance against that guy and was taking out his fury like fist of fury? That teacher I heard was deported cause he disfigured a Quran book. Parent teacher meetings are good if parents are well to do people example QP, RASGAS, Shell, etc. Others get punished and bullied like their children. Lastly, your kids will get a good Malayalee accent along with their English slang term "Manglish".
Heard that Birla Public School is good
MES SCHOOL
1. MES School is over crowded.
2. 45 to 50/class.
3. Teachers are mostly Malayalis.
4. But they score good marks and result.
5. Also Buses are over crowded.
6. Lot of Pakistani childrens are studying and they
are beating other kids. (Just heard)
7. school fees are less.
8. Extra activities or less because the ovar all strangth
more than 7000.
9. Annual day celebration are limited. (Who like to
Participate they will not complacary and they are not
forcing to participate)
10.Higher class are very good, they will give full
enough practice.
Ideal Indian School
1. Teachers are not good.
2. 38 to 45 students per class.
3. KG class onwards they will start tuitions. (think
about that).(my son was in Ideal in KG 1 KG 2 - the
teacher request us to put tuition becauce he took 1
subject 'C' grade- the same teacher was took evening
tuition and with in 2 weeks he reach "A+" grade)
4. Fees are less compared to other schools.
5. Extra activity is less compare to other schools.
DPS MIS
1. 35 to 40 students per class.(ther promissed maximum
28 to 30)
2. When the school started means first 2 years
Mr. Yograj was principal. Realy he did very good.
If your child is week in any subject free evening
class. Every day 5 to 7 all the teachers are
available in school you can meet teacher and discuss.
All the teacher hiered from INDIA, now all local
teachers some teachers don't speak ENGLISH(specialy
Language teachers)
3. Buses are full nowadays. some children are standing
from home to school and from school to home.If you
go and complain they dont't care.
4. The bus driver dont know how to speak to a kid.
5. Fees are very high. If your company will pay then it
is OK.
6. If your child is weak in any subject you have to pay
200/per subject for evening class. 3 days per week
the same teacher will give tuition(I dont know how
the child will learn - why dont they teach at class)
7. PTA meeting 3 times per year.If you want to meet
the teacher you have to get appointment first.
8. Annual day program is complacary for every child
they will charge 150 to 200/child(for costume). also
you have to roam around Doha for 1 week for purchase
few things it is very difficulf to get.
9. Child should submit the note copy, other wise teacher
never ask and never check the class wrok.
10.Extra activity only name, they want to just check
the fathers pockets. Also all the fathers are working
mostly in QP, Qafco, Dolpin,Shell like big companys
11.Teachers think that the parents are sitting at home
idol so all the work will done at home only. They will
give all the assignment and project works and home
work and incomplete class work for parents. They have
to cancell all their program and sit with their
child and study one more time.
12.If you ask about your child development in PTA
meeting they blame your child, they will not accept
their mistake or they recomand for evening class
- per subject 200/-(it is more than the school fees
means 6 subject 1200 Qrs - but only 3 days and 2
hours per day)
All these point are happend to us.
Think before addmission. If the child and parents have the capacity for manage all the above the put your child.
BPS
1. I heard that school is good.
2. Management is good.
3. Higher class studys are good.
well prejudice runs deep among the (Indians)people over here or is it plain jealousy?. For those who claim MES has a Malayali English pronunciation, go check with the thousand who have passed out from that school and are working in good positions all over Qatar.
ALmost all the Indian schools in Doha are run by Malayalis anyway except may be DPS where it is the non-malayalis who are in a majority....
i persnaly belive birla is better...........becoz i study in birla too....but i would prefer dps 4 extra curriclulum acticiies...i say dis becoz...in birla u do hv extra curriculum activivtes n everythin but only till 5 or 6th not after dat...so i would prefer dps..in dat case...n birla is way better in d education matter...dan dps...n 4 higher studies..birla is better...but 4 lower grades it doesnt matter both r equally gud....so any 1 will b f9 4 a kid in 4th grade...n d buses r not over crowed...dey makee it a point dat every1 gets a place...2 sit...n yah every1 gets too...but overall 4 birla is better....wid d extra curiculum acticities plus d education...
I personally know few people who took away their kids from MES to MIS when MIS started and n 1 - 2 years..they are all back in MES...
It seems like there is specific reason to do so..
so personally consult parents of MIS or DPS kids before taking the final decision...
mes teachers dont bother abt the students wether they understand or not...they wanna complete portions
maybe thts y the fees is low bcause teachers dont care..
students r bullies
beatings from teachers very often
trust me iis and mes not worth it
try dmis - education is awsome
Anjas..I like you sprit. Standing up for your school eh?
MES is a dumb place. Sorry to be candid. Teaching methods are obsolete; most of the teachers have no dedication
DPS student - teacher ratio is 30:1 as of now and will improve to about 22:1 in next academic year.
MES / IDEAL: hehehehehehehe 60:1
Sorry, no idea abt DMIS.
U can decide urself. After all CBSE is common to all
[img_assist|nid=60386|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
I dont know where DPS comes into the picture.
MES attitude may be laid back but the competitve spirit is something great there.
I would suggest
1. MES
2. DMIS
3. Ideal
RS.Murali Kumar said MES ...
Standard wise it is MES stundets at the end of the day who have been scoring well a the the Finals when compared to the other CBSE schools here like Birla/DMIS/DPS/Shantiniketen etc.
No doubt MES may look crowded ultimately it is the teachers there who make the difference. This is hearsay from many Indian expatriates here.
Forget the fees part wherever u go there is the fee maybe different but look at the additional extra curricular activities too.
I would suggest MES first if not DPS. Nothing else comes near them.
I support him....
with typical Keralite accent, dont be surprised if kids start noddin like cow.
Birla too much politics, DMIS you have to find out teacher's qualification first
the problem of school primarily but it is permitting it. They can forbid children from bringing gifts to school. Children and Parents do it because the school allows.
gypsy gal... kids always become competivitve in what they should not be. kids here discuss whose father has what car, where they are living and who has visited the most exotic place for the vacations. Is'nt this being over smart.and it is the duty of the parents to impart good sense as to what the child should value the most.
Is that the problem with the school? Its our kids who insist to take the same stuff what their friends brought how can school be blamed for that? DPS is not asking the children to bring particular chocolate or gifts. As a parent its our duty to make our kids understand what suits their father’s pocket.
So from what I gather from all u QL member's feedback , now, I guess it is between Birla and DPS. Checked up Birla . They said Seats are limited and difficulty in admitting and all tha blah blah !!
will check up at DPS. As all of you have mentioned education here in Gulf (for that matter is substandard). they are compromising on the quality of the coaching by hiring nonprofessioal teachers. Well! hope for the best.
thanks all QL members for your feedback.CIAO
BIRLA - dont know abt their teachin, but the management's approach to their teachers is ridiculous.
i have got one of my cousins teaching there, n stayin in the shcool provided accomadation. can u believe that they dont let her visit us even durin the weekends? n no outings. the only time they see the outside world is on thursday evenings, when the school bus take them to LULU (???).. justification bein, they have to 'protect' their staff. come on, gimme a break!!!!
I have heard they have a MONEY culture. Its children compare what chocolate the other kid brought for birthday and who gave what return gift.
I dont know how far this is true. But surely it does go with all the other DPS in india esp Delhi where it is the same.
The differences among all the indian school in doha are minor. None of them are really par excellence. Having said that, within the limitations they have, they are doing a fairly good job. By limitations I mean, being unable to get visas for teachers from India, they end up employing housewives.
If your child was in higher classes, Mes would have been the best option as they are most experienced in that.
In lower classes, I feel that the child needs attention. In this respect Birlas have an edge as they do limit the class to 30 children. DMIS has a good infrastructure but parents who have changed their ward to DMIS after BPS are not happy with DMIS. They feel birla was better.
My 2 children are in Birla. I am quite satisfied with the teachers. I have always got a positive action whenever I have gone with a complain. Which is more than what happens at other schools.
MES seems to have developed a laid back and complacent attitude cause they have the highest no of students.
The best way to decide I think would be to go to these schools and have a FEEL of the place and to speak to few parents personally.
What i know is that though DPS and DMIS have fewer students and teacher attention is more, extra curricular activities are more...etc etc,,, BUT at the end of the day, almost all the 10th and 12th grade students from these schools go to MES and Ideal teachers for tuitions!..... whats the point of charging high fees when u have to send your child for tuitions anyway?...... I think MES is one of the good, experienced and resonably priced schools..... Ideal is also well seasoned and more multicultural and they are also good although they could do with better infrastructure...
Talking about housewives teaching at school, I have heard that DMIS has the highest turnover of staff coz they mostly hire locally and when they realize the extended time of work because they are day boarding school most teachers back out in the middle of the year etc.. With the high fees the parents are paying it is sad that every subject the teacher changes frequently. If there is quality, I don't find any problem high fee structure.. Even one simple incident recently, MES has taken their students to Doha Circus at Hayat for 25 riyals at the same time DMIS has taken their students for 30Riyals. This is just an example there are lots to pen..
gypsygal.......... you hit the nail. the syllabi of Gems school here in dubai is not all that promising. My daughter did her grade two in India and what she had already finished portionwise was repeated here for grade 3. Was a bit dissappointed with the standards. Hence this so called .oopps!!!! sorry ..... darude
So in conclusion DPS syllabus is a bit more tough than DMIS?? am i right??
MES admissions are on I guess...during Feb - March.
Not only the Teachers but the Parents also should take an intrest in teaching their children. TheTeacher might explain something but the child might not grasp that but would not feel comfortable to ask the Teacher but might not hesitate in asking you.
Teachers can only teach very very limited things like things inside the Book.
goodg
DPS schooltimins-7.15 am to 2.10pm the child may reach home by 2.35 by school bus
That’s the problem with DMIS also, their syllabus is very easy compared to DPS which is not good for the kids in the long run. When they go to India it will be really difficult for them to cope up.
My son was in KG II the first batch in DMIS, I was not really happy with the school and I changed him to DPS. He is in now in Grade II and I am really satisfied with the school. then again there are others who are happy with DMIS.
DMIS got a purpose built building which looks like a school, but DPS junior wing is not that tempting. Their own building is under construction which will be ready in 2010. You can visit both schools and decide.
goodg
if ur wife is going for job its better to put inDMISb,cos of day care they provide food in the noon and the child comes home around 4o clock
if she is a house wife its better and nice to put in DPS
see here all indian schools r the same. but from past few years BPS and DPS is having good reputation in all the aspects. My kids r studying in BPS they r in 3rd and KG. teachers r excellent according to me i did not face any problem till now with coaching or any other aspect. my kids love to go to school.teachers r very friendly.even DPS is also good but fees r little bit on higher side.
thanx goodg...... will check up . the hassles of setting up all things new definitely takes time.thanx again
What are the school timings for
DPS?And hope their classrooms are not as crowded as some.
goodg
cooldood my chold is in DPS
if u wish visit their web site
www.dpsmisdoha.com
goodg
delhi buplis scool that is DPS is better than dmis fee stucture is same like dmis
here in DPS there is no day boarding like Dmis
but education is good each and every child gets oppurtunity to take part in each and every extra curricular activities
Standard wise it is MES stundets at the end of the day who have been scoring well a the the Finals when compared to the other CBSE schools here like Birla/DMIS/DPS/Shantiniketen etc.
No doubt MES may look crowded ultimately it is the teachers there who make the difference. This is hearsay from many Indian expats here.
Forget the fees part wherever u go there is the fee maybe different but look at the additional extra curricular activities too.
I would suggest MES first if not DPS. Nothing else comes near them.

Hi Gypsygal... where are ur children studying? and what is ur honest feedback??
goodg ........school strength of 7000 is a bit too much I guess;))
Ur child is in DMIS or Delhi public school?? I know DMIS is costlier than other schools. Just want to get back our money's worth.
Hey goodg thanks. dont get me wrong!! Any profession is well served only when the person is well trained. Housewives may be honest and sincere at their jobs, but the fact remains that they r not trained in the nuances of teaching.
goodg
MES is one of the best school even for higher classes with lowest fees in doha
but only thing is the strength is too much .its near 7000 whole school
Those days MES & Ideal were the only option so it was good, not anymore. 45-50 kids in one class is ridiculous.... only the smart ones get attention from teachers and the others will be left out. All these new schools like DPS, DMIS, etc they don’t take more than 25 children in one class.
Omigosh!! My daughter is in Millenium in Dubai which belongs to the same Gems group . Am not really happy with their quality. Teachers are taking it a bit too lightly and there is absolutely no sense of competitiveness in the children. Hence wanted to do good research here before the admission. How are the teachers at DMIS
goodg
in all the school most of the teachers are housewieves who told u that they won't teach well
goodg
hai cooldood namaste
dmis is better than birla but there is difference in fee stucture too its more in dmis than in birla
u can too put ur kid in delhi buplic school that is modern indian school its really good my daughter is doing 3rd std their .tehre too the fees is more when we compare to others
sending the child to school is a differnt issue. but feel that the quality of education should be good. Hope they do not employ housewives as teachers to teach. Then the quality of education will defintely suffer.
and fees is lowest in mes compared to all schools in qatar
First of all welcome to Qatar and welcome to QL.
I would suggest DPS-Modern Indian School, which is the best Indian school in Doha. Birla is not in par with DPS & DMIS. DMIS is the only Indian school with Day boarding facility. DPS is more professional in their approach towards education and other extra curricular activates. I think you should consider DMIS vs DPS.
There are some other QL members who are happy with DMIS.
DaRude... dont scare new members with your usual comments..
Bond 007 ... that's funny If at MES that is the scenario, can u let me know how it is at birlas? Or is it the same there too??
but if u sent ur child with ur car it's ok
but the problem in mes is the transport. buses are overcrowded
I am getting confused nowthis response is what I have been getting from few acquaintances here in my short stay. Are they giving extra activities coaching too at birla??
max. 42/class
but if u compare the marks and other activities of students mes will be the top in the gulf
No need to worry for seats even if seats are not available they will accomodate 1 coz there will be minimum of 80 students in a class he hehehe
that is only the problem
M.E.S is the worst & Birla is the best this is what people say in Doha :D(
Hi Ajnas,
thanks for your feedback! will contact the school staff and check for admissions. How is the seat availability scenario?
i am telling u that M.E.S Indian School is good and I am a Xiith grade student there.
Hi darude
No.... this is not bashing. I am just interested in getting the best for my child. am not sure if doha modern is good with its high fee structure or birla is. Hence this topic. My family will be joining me in two weeks time and need to make a decision.
Thanks
school bashing is on now
