Aussies in Qatar

By daintree

Hi,

Couple with 2 little kids looking at moving from Australia to Qatar. Huge culture shock I could imagine. Would be working at airport. Looking at areas to live/avoid. Costs, socialising, schools etc.

Any info appreciated.

Thanks.

Nice - I am very familiar with the area. :)

The environment will definitely be a shock after coming from the lush green of Cairns... (even despite the drought there)... I *really* miss green space here.

Sorry to say I can't offer much advice re schools etc - no kids, no knowledge...

Good luck with the move.

You are moving to the right place for a family I suppose.

Malls, shopping centers, cinemas, restaurants, gardens, clubs(health clubs), beaches and events (Asian Games in Doha 2006, www.doha-2006.com) are all available in Qatar!

About education, a big variety of schools and universities available. Have a look at the following websites:

www.qf.edu.qa

www.dohacollege.com

www.asdqatar.org

Life here is quite and safe. Lots of westerns enjoy thier life here!

Apartments became expensive because of the asian games and business growth.

Good luck! :D
