Accommodation - Best Areas in Doha?

nottmbantam
By nottmbantam

Ok - so we *might* be moving to Doha ( from Saudi ) , I'm in negotiations with the company. I have set my budget for housing, absolute maximum of 8,500QR monthly. The question is:

What areas would you recommend?

What I would like to get?:
Fully furnished
Hopefully Water and Electricity included
Gym
Internet / Free telephone.
Parking / Security /
Maybe daily cleaner?

I've spent quite some time looking on this Forum, at the Classified ads - are the genuine advertisers or it is best to go through a Lettings Agency ( but I don't want to pay commission!)

Do I go for a nice compound apartment, probably 2 beds, or go for something not on a compound, but maybe bigger - 3 beds? It seems the compound accommodation is more expensive.

I've seen loads of ads ranging from 5,500 ( Jareed Abdul Aziz ) 2BR / FF / All utilties right through to 9,500 2 br / FF / Compound and all utilities.

Ideally, I'd like to come in a little under budget so the ideal price for me would be around 7,000 - 7,500QR.

As far as I know, my potential work location is in Hilal area.I've seen ads for apartments in places like Najma / Old Airport. What are these areas like?

Thanks for any info / advice you can offer.

Apologies for the delayed response, hope the website helped, it is sometimes a little difficult to navigate but is constantly updated with our current rental stock.

We are presently in process of replacing this website with a newer and much more user friendly one, hopefully within the next month, so watch this space.

I look forward to us being of assistance if you do make it over here.

Kind regards

Hi, I'm Craig MD of Mirage property, a well established real estate company here in Doha.

Most of the comments you've received so far are about right. You will struggle to find a compound apt within your budget, firstly because there are not many apts within compounds here and secondly they are generally higher priced. Two reasons for this, the shortage of units and the facilities that come with a compound apt.

You can find apt buildings that have pools/gyms etc but they're costlier and you could also consider serviced accommodation which includes everything, just turn up and live! these again are pricier but no bills.

Area wise:

Old Airport area would be good as reasonably priced, within budget and close to work.

Although most people have said avoid Najma, I would give it some consideration as you can find some good quality apartments and it's ideally located for work, corniche etc. The immediate area is not the best but it's safe.

Mansoura is a little better, located next to Najma with again some good quality apartments.

Al Sadd is central, a very popular area but a little more expensive and probably a little out of your range for fully furnished.

I'd recommend checking out mirageproperty.com, our website, to get a general idea of what's out there, once you've had a look just drop us an email and we'll contact you to help get you housed.

We have our own properties and those of other landlords available, offering the whole range from apts to villas and fully serviced accommodation. P.S. we don't charge a fee, unlike some agencies here.

Hope that helps.

Kind regards

Considering the proximity to your work place, I'd say Old airport area suits you best though it's a bit run down as nomerci said but it's pretty decent and will be within your budget.

Look in Al Saad too, drive won't be too long from there either. Avoid Najma & Mansoura in your case.

Might still consider Old Airport area and will also look out for Mansoora and Al Sadd areas. Will let you guys know if we are making the move, should have a better idea by the end of the week / early next week.

Thanks to you all for taking the time and trouble to reply, appreciated.

The Old airport area is nice to live in, it's a mix of people living there and lotsa families live there too. The corniche from there is just a 10 mins drive.

Najma has a lot of bachelors there and I don't think you would like it anyways. Mansoora on the other hand, which is close to Najma is a better area in comparison to Najma.

I don't think the independent compounds here have 2 bedroom apartments, but I could be wrong on that one. It's mostly 4 bedrooms, if not 3. Besides, not many compounds here have apartments, unless you get Barwaa (subsidized, part govt. owned or something like that) or Ezdan, which is in Wakrah, which is about 15-20 mins drive from Al Hilal

Old Airport /Najma area is ok, bit run down though. There are, as I said some compounds there and also apartments. But they are not as nice as the ones in Al Waab and West Bay. Except one, Al Fardan Garden compound , but they have only villas , no apartments.

You have about a 5 minute drive ( if there is NO traffic, like on an early Friday morning) to the Cornishe.

And yes, Cornishe properties would defo be more expensive as those apartments are in Residential towers.

I think the cheapest wou;d be Ezdan towers in West Bay, but I heard they have massive problems there. A lot of residents seem to be unhappy from what I heard. There were threads on that on QL.

Go For AL SADD , a Nice Area close from everything

and within this budget you are able to find 2 B Appartments fully furnished in a nice building ..

Yes, I think what I was trying to say in my original post, was a small 2 bed apartment on a compound OR a larger 3 bed apartment OFF compound is within the budget realistically.

Looking at prices for The Pearl I think it's out of my price range, as is West Bay.

What is Najma area like and what is the Old Airport Area? Are tehse nice places to live and who generally lives there? eg families, bachelors, executives, labourers etc Are they near to the Corniche and I guess Corniche properties are more expensive?

It will be just me and my wife, but we'd like to have at least one spare room for when the family come and visit!

You won't get compounded 3 bedroom apartments within your budget, although I did see and ad sometime back on QL, for a 3 bedroom compounded apartment for QAR 8,500 somewhere in the Matar Kadeem (Old Airport) area. And it was advertised almost everyday, so you could be lucky ;-)

Maybe searching through the classifieds should help you a bit ;-)

oh, well, that budget is a bit low for a place on a "nice" compound...are you coming with family?

There are some small compounds in the area, nothing fancy though. They are mostly located in the area behind Al Rawnaq on the Airport road. Sorry, I don't know the names of those compounds.

Other than that, appartmenets, sorry, have no idea.

according to me will be ideal for you, since you're area of work is Al Hilal. A 3 bedrooms FF apartment (not in a compound) is QAR 8,500. I know this because a friend of mine recently moved into one at the old airport area. 2 bedrooms FF is about QAR 7,000. But these are with reputed real estate agents.

You will get cheaper accommodation, if you go for unfurnished and with lesser known agents.
