Ohhhh myyy! I've just finished packing the bags for the three of us- I think that's the most baffled I've ever been!! Lol. Phewwww. Blood, sweat and lots of tears.. (joking) but What a hassle!

On the last few days of waiting now- but no laptop and missing QL'ers:)

The limit is 21 kgs, I literally pack half my apartment when I am heading back to doha, so you can imagine how obnoxious it can be when you are rudely asked to pay them for the excess baggage you are carrying.

I remember a certain time when u were allowed to carry up to 30 kgs ahhh good ol' days!!!

p.s. U should take the bare necessities with you, a pair of black pants, a LBD, a few hand bags, and maybe ballerina slippers!!! (:

Cheers for that.. I contacted a firm and it's only going to be a round £300- pick up and all.. I just packed one of the twin's bags today.. it's not properly full and only weighs 11kg. I think I was having a pre-moving freak out.. I discovered my case is 5kg alone so gonna send it with the detrius:)

In the past , I have found it easier to just take the neccessary items with me and send the bulk of the stuff as "unaccompanied" luggage..

It doesn't cost that much and makes travelling easier..

Where are you going From?? (to London, I mean??) I could definitely look into meeting you somewhere to hoist some stuff with you!! I actually got my ass into gear about shipping cos I have some pics etc that I'd like to take.. Jut found a firm that does it for about a tonne and then it's cost me about £80 for each extra 40kg. How much do you have with you???

I think this is the allowance for Business or First Class though, no? I'm only a minion.. lol

As I remember till 10 days ago, the max baggage allowed was 40Kg per passenger + 8Kg Hand Baggage in Qatar Air Ways and each pack not exceeding more than 32Kg.

Which means you will have to carry at least 2 peaces to cover 40 Kgs and if you have Privilege Club member with Qatar Air Ways, you get additional of 10Kg and on request you will get additional 10Kgs.

All in all, you can carry up to 60Kgs. The best way to distribute your stuff is to buy a Package box medium size from QPost office (either in Lulu or Cornice). These boxes are meant to stuff up to 32Kgs and the best thing is you don't have to worry about bringing it back. Each box costs around 10 to 15 QR.

The Priv Club is the Frequent Flyer programme for Qatar Airways. Once again, believe me...you do not get any extra allowance with a temporary card (4th tier).

Would be a good idea to give Qatar Airways a call, try calling the airport office rather than reservations.

I have the same issues with my wife. Taking 10 pairs of shoes but only using two or three in a two week period is not an economical use of our luggage allowance. Neither is 9 pairs of jeans and 5 different handbags.

Even worse than the limit is that I end up carrying it as the case is so heavy....

learn the virtue of travelling light..... when you travel you do not need to take your wardrobe with you.

Simply apply for a frequent flyer card which will give you straight 10 kilo extra.

You can have a 7 or 8 kg cabin baggage too.

Do what all women do.

Put 22kg in your checked luggage, and this will probably be fine.

7kg in your 'carry on bag' (sometimes they weigh these so don't take the risk).

And then put 10kg in your biggest 'handbag' and keep it over your shoulder tucked behind your back. No one ever notices.

And then you have almost 30kg.

There is always the option of unaccompanied baggage I think.

Enquire with QA (or any other carrier) about that option and how much it costs.

FranElizabeth, when I came I packed my shoes on a separate bag that could be carried with me in to the plane. Now don't get me wrong, I was not intending on having that as my hand luggage since I had my hand luggage bursting with clothes already. But... I was nice to the lady and asked her if she could add that bag, since it was so small. And they agreed to it :)

Explain to them you're emigrating and they are usually quite understanding. You could also contact your airline and explain the emigration part to them. A friend of mine did it and they allowed her to bring an extra 10Kg!

If your suitcase weighs 10kgs. Don't you think it would be a good idea to store your ironing in there on a permanent basis and buy a lightweight bag that is only 2/3kg. There you have 7 extra kgs already.

If you have just applied then you'll get a Temporary card, which entitles you to nothing. You need 50 points before you can get a Burgundy card, London to Doha is 20 points.

20kg is pretty much the standard for economy class tickets for most airlines.

With Qatar Airways it depends on the destination. Europe is usually 20kgs while Laborer routes such as Nepal, India, The Philippines & North Africa are 30kg-50kg for economy.

Burgundy Card... +10kg

Silver Card..... +15kg

Gold Card....... +20kg

Business Class.. +10kg

First Class..... +20kg

Qatar Airways staff may waive 2-3kgs, but no more. The next time you check-in, take a look behind the monitor and you'll see a microphone and of course the camera at the back. These guys are sacked for the smallest thing, so don't expect them to risk their job by doing you a favour.

Oh heck! This is the kind of challenge they give to people applying to the SAS.

if you're departing DOHA: upto 50kg allowed + if you're a privilege Card holder you will be allowed more

coming to Doha is a different story: only 20kg allowed but if you're a privilege club member you will be allowed more...

ADVISE: GO ONLINE and APPLY FOR A PRIVILEGE CLUB card now before travelling

Fran it is 30Kg to all routes from Doha to UK and on the return it is 20kg.

However if you are a privilage club member, Burgundy card holders get extra 10kg, silver extra 15kg and Gold members extra 20kg..

So who is having the larf, you just have to fly with Qatar Airways more to reap the benefit..

I am almost packed also so out of here on Thursday for 4 weeks ..

No hubby.. just the three of us. Maybe I could just pack pants and vests for the twins and have the rest for me;)lol.. Really, we could do it if we could combine our allowance between the 3 of us... my case is HUGE.. the twins' bags are big, but super light.. will they combine the weight of the 3 of them? Does that make sense?

Otherwise I'm going to have one 1/4 full case and 2 super packed. I know this is Seriously anally retentive of me, and I could just buy myself a different case.. but mine was a birthday present and I want to bring it. Lol. What a GIRL!!
