Will Q-Tel Roll Out Free Wi-Fi in Qatar?
Everyone knows that universal internet access is a good thing. Qatar is a tiny country and it would seem simple for Q-Tel to cover Doha in a Wi-Fi cloud. The Gulf Times ran a story saying that Q-Tel is investigating this.
QTEL plans to provide nationwide WiFi coverage, enabling customers to get hooked on to the Internet from laptops that have wireless connectivity.
Sources said the service provider is currently implementing a WiMAX project for nationwide connectivity by increasing the number of non-residential WiFi hotpots across Qatar. WiMAX, the worldwide interoperability for microwave access, is a telecommunications technology aimed at providing wireless data over long distances.
Currently, there are about 30 non-residential hotpots in Qatar including the passenger terminal at the Doha International Airport.
I'd be interested to see if they provide it for free. If they do, I think it would be extremely beneficial for the nation and education in the country.
Qtel provide free Wi-Fi service just for good will. Yeah, keep dreaming.
Those guys charge you 100 QR just for swithing on additional phone socket in house, and you expect them to do something for free?

They could cover most, if not all, of Doha for the cost of about $30,000 to Qtel. The customer would just need to purchase a card that works with the equipment (maybe $30).
They would make up the cost very quickly.
If anyone from Qtel needs the info I can pass it on to them. I am just a tech, not sales so I dont care about that part. Just willing to give a little time to help make life in Doha easier.
Hi, related to this, ictQatar is rolling out free wireless connections in Qatar's parks -
