@ serdal

Agree with you perfectly !!

others thanks for stupid comments and overreacting...

sweetangel...well said...but its a global city...you just can't close it suddenly all the way. It will generate more violators than before for the rule...u know that.

thanks everyone !!

I too have heard that its a matter of policy to restrict alcohol outlets to 4 and 5 star hotels.

Its certainly NOT related to Ramadan, as some here suggest, because its not Ramadan yet.

As to "Because we are a Muslim Country" dont we tollerate other religions and cultures too ?

We are building new hotels and have a stated policy to develope the tourist industry. Moves such as this, and the closure or all bars at lunch (until 5pm) are a very negative move for the tourist industry and in fact indicate that Qatar is becoming more and more removed from the standards of the rest of the world.

The reason CYN9 shut down was cos it wasn't one fo the 5-star hotels here in Qatar. Rumour has it that, now hotels that have 5-star ratings can have disco-bars or even a bar lounge...

all bars in a 3-4 star hotel will be closed. I think its 1 of the strategic move by the government to market their 5-star hotels and with constructions everywhere, more hotels are coming up.

They did not close the expensive bars. Guess they want to cumulate the money in a few places only with a higher profit margin.
