I am always wondering, what people would do on weekend in their countries? What do they have in their home cities different from Doha? Same Malls, same movies, same restaurants and bars.. I agree, there are no theatres here, but how many of you guys ever been to the theatre? And if you are so hungry for the classic show, there is a Philharmonic Orchestra here, on very high level by the way .. I agree, there are not too many art galleries and museums here, but hey, have you ever been to existing ones?

What you usually back home?? DO THE SAME! As the matter of fact I am socializing in doha much more than i did it in my country..

Here is my weekend:

Thursday: Birthday of one of our friends at his villa.. It was a whole bunch of people (around 30-35) and we had a LOT of fun, with games, surprises, dances, karaoke, etc…

Friday: 1 pm – branch with my hub in Marriott; 4 pm – souq with some of our friends- coffee/tea/shisha (we had a great time); evening - carting..

Tomorrow: my hub is cooking and we are having few friends over for the lunch, then – night movie… Nice relaxing weekend..

I am hooked on to cooking channels and have learnt a lot of healthy recipes..I believe staying home, cooking healthy food and excercising is the best way to spend a boring weekend.

NINZKI... since your from phillipines, im sure there are many groups that have sports, other extra-curricular activites that hold them together. Being an Indian , it is a litte dificult for me, to find such groups in Doha. Going to church, getting involved in volunteering - regular excerise and the gymn are the only things keeping me cheerful now... im also bored.. may be look to study something in the free time.

thanks for all your suggestions. me and my family are doing that almost all weekends. after miles of walking and being tired, we end up eating in a fastfood resto. im gaining weight and started to get bored.

can anyone suggest me a group associated with outdoor sports that would be fun and at the same time healthy? i am very much interested to join.

what do people generally do, in a still/dull place liek doha, after office hours and especially during weekends? I wonder often.

People with families, will have their daily chores of managing a house and its members - but what do Bachelors/spinsters do here in doha?

I tried liasing wiht people, try to have some get togethers - but people seem to be in some mad-rush for shopping in doha! doha is filled with shopping malls and food outlets. and yes, they are multiplying even more, on our own expenses, ultimately of course.

There is no space/time given for any personal /intellectual discussions, meetings nothing.

and .....most people, tend to mind their own businesses.

Neither do i smoke or drink. These 2 factors are magnets for social gatherings, and because im deficient in these habits, I again keep wondering.....

.... what do people do in doha?

and by the way - the food festival was disappointing!. just soem stalls to market hoteliers and thats it. Does not attract and showcase stuff for normal crowds. So, please have soem other plans than going there.

You can try the Doha Food Festival, opposite the Exhibition Centre tomorrow from 11AM till 10PM. Else, you can go to some Beach towards North like Al-Ghariya or Fuwairit Beach...or South West like Zikreet or Dukhan etc. Sheraton Park at Corniche is also a nice option for a Picnic Lunch.A movie at any of the Cineplexes is not bad either.
