I WAS WONDERING TO C FEW PLANTS IN & AROUND DOHA. WHY NO PLANTATION ACTIVITIES ARE TAKING PLACE ?, LEAVING FEW SELECTED PLACES.I FEEL OXYGEN LEVEL IN DOHA IS COMPARATIVELY LOW.

In my previous post I forgot to mention that the Municipality were criticised by a leading religious figure for planting trees pther than Date Palms which would feed the poor, notwithstanding the huge dangers of eating produce infected by lead from petrol, yes we had that for years here! No major planting has occured in my knowledge since. Anyway Qataris are supposed to be highly suspicious of trees as they apparently encourage snakes, so I've been told!

an attempt was made many years ago, plantations were established all along the Shamal Road on alternating sides. These were intended to have some water to get established but flourish on groundwater. The attempt largely failed. Some trees survive but many didn't. Instead many Municipal schemes were established using huge amount of irrigation water to survive, how much water does it take to keep grass growing here? We can all help but assisting plants which can survive low water input, e.g. Sidr and Samr and many others, will help more. Let them get established and then let them get on with helping the environment. Eventually Green awareness will result in our vast amount of wasted water (how much do we use waiting for the shower to get hot or brushing out teeth!) being recovered to help green the country. It will help the world as well! Do what you can in your own life and eventually this will have a major effect as others join you!
