IS THERE ANY ONGOING CENSUS IN QATAR?

This afternoon, 2 guys (who are later known from central African country) visited our home (in Rayyan area) when Im not there. They asked my kids about the occupant of our home. Plainly as a kid he answer whatever asked. Once these guys left home, he called me when I was on the way home. I surprised and told him strictly not to open the door to any stranger, neither to answer any question, except if for government officer which is clearly using a uniform and able to show an ID card.

When I arrived home, I asked him to go around neighborhood to try my luck to find these guys. Finally, we found them still around our neighborhood. Seeing their appearance it is curious for me, as none of them look like a government officer, neither they were wearing a uniform. They just worn a normal shirt, trouser and one of them using sandal???

When I asked for their identification, one of them show me a color printed id card (seems like it was scanned & reprinted) so I don't know its authenticity as anybody can make this id by deskjet color printer. His photo shown there was printed but with a stamp on it, this increase my curiosity for its authenticity. It is written there a name census body and other with arabic letters. One old local man there told they were ok. But, all their condition/appearance cannot satisfy me at all either they are really from government authorised body. To be honest, I cannot tolerate somebody (unauthorised) come into our gate and knocking the door inside.

Anyone of you have experience this condition? is there any ongoing census in Qatar? if yes, then what is it name? and how to contact them? to whom I should clarify this matter?

Zaen, I m with you 100%, you should be prudent...

Have you checked with the neighbors, anyoneelse received the same visit/investigation in your neighborhood??!! Is there any pasted sticker on your front door??!!

If none of the above has happened, it means that your stranger visitors have nothing to do with the ongoing census…

even lowpaid the teaboy here were using uniform, also the petrol station boy, shwarma restaurant host, etc...etc...

Is it that difficult for the authority to provide uniform for the enumerators who will roaming all around country asking thousands of people.

The answer is absolutely no. That's why it is so curious for me to see them on that look?

Yes they are conducting a census right now. They came by our house yesterday. I dont' think there is anything you should worry about.

THank you notfromhere.

But the actual conditions found were not as describe on your link:

1. "Doha, June 02 (QNA) - Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) starts tomorrow, Wednesday, a pilot census for families and individuals in Qatar, to conclude in June 10."

- it was conducted today (25/06/2009), two weeks after the formal conclusion date.

2. "The enumerators involved in the census, have been enrolled in intensive training programmes and equipped with the latest technology tools that help the authority achieve effective results."

- he only used a simple notice book which can be obtained in most of groceries, and wrote the information by wooden pencil. No questionnaires form, not speaking english, no uniform, one of them using rubber sandal.

3. "Some 30 enumerators will conduct the census, with official cards issued by the QSA and will collect data on family status, education, profession and population characteristics."

- the official card shown by them is only a color

printed card in business-card-size carton paper with GSDP logo on it (seems like it was scanned & reprinted), anybody can easily produce this card by deskjet color printer. His photo -shown there- was printed directly (not pasted) on the carton paper but with a stamp on it, if it is printed originally, then there will be no stamp on the photo. Normally the stamp (which part of it on the photo & other on the card) was used to legitimate the photo when it was pasted to the card (not direct printing).

With all those irregularities, can we trust them from the authority?
