Steps to Buy 2nd hand car ???
Hi all, I recently came to Qatar and havent got much experience with buying cars (infact this will be my first car that I'll buy for myself). I wish to know that what exactly are the steps of buying a 2nd hand car in Qatar. I am thinking of buying a 2nd hand car for no more than QAR 25,000, so not expecting an absolutely fabulous car but just that will take me from one point to another and does not cost me much maintenance.
So I need to know that what should I do when I go to some car seller (car dealer or through some personal ad) and look at his car.
Following are the steps I have guessed on the basis of talking to other new car buyers at my work:
1) Have a good look at the used car to see if there are any accident marks, dents and paint scratches.
2) Take the car for test-drive to see how smoothly it drives and how good the A/C works
3) Take the car to a car mechanic (preferably to the mechanic of the same brand as that of the car) who can check and assess the condition of different parts of the car. If he says it's fine, then its okay otherwise say no to the seller.
4) Hopefully the car has istimara
5) Make sure the seller has not got any money due on the car. But I dont know how can one check that ??? Please help.
Also if I follow the above steps and intending to buy an average medium car, are the above steps enough or have I missed a crucial or/and recommended step in assessing whether to buy car or not?
Regards
Hi,
Can you buy a second hand car using a bank loan?
if so do you have to use a used dealer shop or can this still be used for a private sale?
thnaks
Hi QL friends! In my experience, i bought a second hand jeep cherokee 2001 model last year. The body color was still the original paint with some scratches. But one thing i focused on. The engine, since its an old car. It runs in good shape, silent engine, and very powerful. My point is, focus on the most important part of a car. The paint, a/c, interior is useless if the car you bought can't bring you to your destination.
Tip: its better if the mechanic you consult is a close friend.

Feel sorry for yourself! And get lost from forums where serious people discuss serious issues.
Bunch of complainers, I feel sorry for your wives/boyfriends...
idiots like wk will support such jokers
joke. Everybody is sick of your 'jokes'.
That's right! I look after the car and my wife drives it, well, sometimes.
Regarding the LincolnPirates remarks, what do you, probably a school teacher, know about cars?
You, my dear exiledsaint, famous for insulting people, stop opening your mouth on subjects you are not familiar with. As I said before, there is negative energy coming from you.
And I 100% agree with OSAA and jjj75.
I just have differing opinions to some and my comment about driving backwards was clearly a joke
Think before u type anything on a social site.......... and if this is after you thought then... ur being very rude....
arafee, what do you mean??
Actually female expats are exactly the type of people to buy from - low usage, very unlikely to have been driven in the desert (applies to 4x4). Women get into fewer serious acccidents, so unlikely the car will have had major repairs, does not drive the car hard (ie last minute breaking/aggresive change of gears if car is a manual car... could go on
that itself is a reason, u have done everything and she has done nothing, but when it comes to selling, the advertisement would be "LADY DRIVEN CAR"....
Dear friend buying a car in Doha especial y if it used is a Farley simple process, I have done so many times and it does not get easier
Now finding the right car for you will need a little time searching the net you do not need to physically search as almost all privet sellers and showrooms are on the net through the following websites
Qatar living/qatar sale/carsemsar
Find the car
Go see it
Liked it
Check it
Pay the money and transfer
Congradulations your new car
Take the car to the check up I usually take it to the German center for check up they are good it coasts around QR.300 for a full check up including paint check
You have two choices of buying a used car, you can either buy it from a used dealer shop or directly from a seller. You can search the net for both but buying from a privet person selling is much easier cause the paper transfer of ownership is direct between you and the seller as if you buy it from a dealer you have to pay the dealer around QR.1,000 to finalize the transfer process for you and you have to wait for the car until the transfer is done.
If you buy from a privet seller and after liking and inspecting the car you go with the seller to traffic department both of you fill the necessary documents there where the car plate number will be automatically checked for fines before transfer . There is a QR.300 transfer usually paid by the seller.
hope this helps you and good luck
It only has 30000 Km becuase she drove it backwards....
A car must be driven. Anything you don't use will rott.
What is wrong with buying a car from a female expat? I am selling my wife's Honda City 2006 with ONLY 30000 km in PERFECT condition as she wasn't even driving the car every day. I was looking after the car, Istimara, insurance, servicing etc. it was serviced every 5000 km and very well mantained. What is wrong with that??
dr.flanostu, it will only take few minutes to book a flight:

come on flan be nice....
And don't buy from a female expat!
don't buy from a muslim.
Yes these steps are good.
but one thing is that- you don't need to go any company to check the car, you can go to any car computer checkup at salwa road any check the car.
but i am wonder that you can get a good car at that amount.
you may find nissan sunny, honda civic, toyota corolla at this price. but you must have to be careful. one of the most important thing that you need to know that the seller who is selling the car : what is the reason? he is leaving the country/ bought a new car. because many people sell their car when they have many problems coming on their car.
so see a low mileage car and ask the buyer why he is selling? he may be angry sometime but don't care...
good luck!
You can check the license plate number on the government website to see if it has any penalties.
