Seeking advice for a relationship b/w different nationalites

Hello All,

I have found Qatar Living community very lively and very active. I have thought of putting in my story and seek advice from you guys.

I (an Indian nationality) and a girl (of Pakistan nationality) were working in a consultant firm in Dubai couple of years ago on a contract basis. We began liking each other and fell in love. Last year our contract ended, and we had to return to our respective home countries. We were in regular contact with each other and are still in love. Presently, I have got a good job in Doha while she is still back in Pakistan. We both are Christians (Roman Catholic). Our parents have no objection with our relation and we have now decided to get married. But I have some concerns which I would like to put forward:

1) Where can we get married? In India, Pakistan, Qatar or somewhere else?

2) If any of the countries possible, what may be the legal procedures required to be fulfilled?

3) If she visits India/Qatar on a tourist visa, can we get married legally and how?

4) If I visit Pakistan on a tourist visa, can it be done there?

I am not sure if this is a correct platform for raising issues like this but since we are multi-national people over here, I felt I may get a genuine response here. Also if you have had any of your friends/relatives with a similar case, your advice would greatly help.

Thank you very much.

Thanks Mandi and Baldrick. I wanted to have enough knowledge of the possibilities before me approaching any of the religious or govt authorities. Mandi, your option of talking to the local priest here and in Pak is accepted and I can check it with them.

And I guess another question would be for which country can you get a visa? Can you get one for Pakistan or she for India? It might be easier if you were to get married in her home if you can get a visa. Ask her to check out the local church for their requirements.

Go for it buddy!

I met a Finnish girl in Riyadh, but she left before we go too serious (marriage) and regret it now.

Strike while the iron is hot and enjoy a union made in Qatar :o)

I am very happy for you! Perhaps you could consult the priest at the Catholic church here in Doha to find out about the legalities of marriage in Qatar for two Christians, one of whom is a non-resident. I wish you two all the best! Let us know how it turns out.

Mandi
