Roundabouts in Qatar: An Overlooked heritage?
Roundabouts have been an important part of Qatar, some of which have even become landmarks. However recently, Qatar noticed the tearing down of several of these monuments one after the other. While the transformation of roundabouts into traffic light has definitely eased the traffic, we cannot deny that roundabouts are part of Qatar's ever evolving heritage.
This video was made for UCL-Q Students (by the students) and was used in their project portfolio for Interdisciplinary Methods for the Study Cultural Heritage. It shows the GIS imagery of Doha and the roundabouts which are no longer available since they have been replaced by traffic lights.

Absolutely agree with the title of this video! In dusty boring Qatar one of the few artistic treasures they had were the beautiful sculptures in the roundabouts. One by one they have been reduced to rubble. Why oh Why were they not simply removed to the side of the roads or moved to a park somewhere? I almost cried the day I drove down D ring and saw the front loaders hacking away at Sailboat roundabout. THESE WERE WORKS OF ART!!!!
Egypt also has pharaoh Al Sisi
Other countries have centuries-old buildings as part of their heritage.
Roundabouts is the best thus cannot destroy completely.
Roundabouts are the best thing since sliced bread.
