Relocation to Qatar

Hi, my husband would be getting employed in Qatar by November 2008. We'd be moving from Australia. We're a family of 3 ( with and 8 month old baby) and one more due Mid March. Could someone please advise what would our average expenses be like per month ( inclusive of a 3 bedroom apt in a nice location)? Also, can you please suggest some good maternity hospital. Is it easy to get domestic help over there and what are the places where we can buy nice furniture from? Thankyou.

Oh, and domestic help can be available relatively inexpensively.

Welcome, Ashtin. Goodness, that's a lot of questions. Please feel free to browse QL for more answers. Rent in Doha is quite expensive, I would estimate it could run between 12,000 and 20,000 for a nice three room villa in a "good" area. Often an employer will provide it, do check out that possibility. Food is comparable to or less than in the US/Europe. Gas of course is dirt cheap and cars are about the same as everywhere. There are many, many furniture stores. I personally like "The One" and the "Home Center." For other items - sheets, towels, dishes, glassware - I might go to Carrefour. Both Al Ahli Hospital and Hamad have been recommended for maternity care. They each have their own fan club. If yours is a more complicated pregnancy then Hamad may be a more "full service" facility. Good luck and stay in touch!
