-- housing price: housing prices are high. Way higher than they were a few years ago. But, most employers provide a housing allowance in relation to how many people you have in your family, what job you do etc. Its not bad, and it really does depend on your position. If you happen to work at a nice post for a good company, you shoudl have no problem .

-- auto insurance: neglibgible. Totally negligible. Its like 6000 for the whol year, which is nothing. But you do want to get the most comprehensive plan you can, because people drive like maniacs here.

-- health insurance: provided under your company's sponsorship. not a worry at all. Dental on the other hand, goes from company to company.

-- your wife is in the medical field and there really could not be a better field for her to be in when it comes to women in Qatar. She will have a lot of job prospects in the coming years, with many new hospitals opening up. For instance, they just performed their first heart transplant here, and are working on a kidney transplant. That shows you how far they have to go yet... and what the opportunities could be for her.

-- bringing a car here can be good, but its not necessary. Most employers give a transport allowance which well enough to afford a decent car. Or you get a company car, which is money cuz they take care of everything on it, like servicing etc. My suuggestion would be tyo save urself the hassle, and just buy one here. That is, if you are able to seel you car in the US. In teh case of my dad, he wasn't able to because it was leased and no one wanted to take on a 2 year old lease from him. So he brought it. But he's gonna have a major problem when his Dodge Caravan needs major servicing, cuz they don't have many service centres here, if any.

As a sidenote:

If you really love something, like music, or books, or poker chips or whatever that you would consider a hobby of yours, bring it with you. Trust me, this is dead central.. ain't nothing of nay value except for pricey irrelevant stuff is sold her. If you want the latest Boss cologne, they have it. You want to buy poker chips? Sorry.

Hope that helps.

Qatar has opened up recently and it is now possible to for non-citizens to buy properties in certain developments such as the Pearl and Losail. I'm not sure if any of these are on the market yet...

I am sure that you will find life is easier in comparison to US.The housing prices are pretty high these days and if you are looking for a decent VILLA then you are talking in terms of 10K QR plus. The Auto Insurance are pretty nominal and health coverage is normally provided by the companies to their staff. Its definetly cheaper to buy cars locally as they are more adept to the local weather conditions.Your wife should get a job though I believe that she has to clear a local medical test.

I hope my comments help you in making your decision.Remember that no decision is perfect, there is always a barter involved and to gain you will definetly lose out on some front. It all depends on your circumstances and your priorities!

Cheers!
