I work at Qtel, and I'd like to clarify a few misconceptions:
Qtel's international calling rates are highly dependent on the charges of the international operators. As well, you cannot compare a market of 10 or 15 or 50 million subscribers with a market of 1.5 million.
Qtel has constantly reduced its charges, not increased them. This is something not many businesses or landlords in the whole State of Qatar can claim.
The recent energized Hala and reduced payphone rates are an example of this. The new payphone rates will enable customers to utilize their payphone smart card at any payphone booth and receive up to 39% in savings on their international calls.
Calls made to GCC countries will cost QR1 per minute, while calls to non-GCC Arab countries, the Americas, Europe and Australia will be QR1.25 per minute. Calls to the remainder of Asia and Africa will be QR1.50 per minute. All rates will apply 24 hours a day.
The pulse rate is one minute, not 15 seconds.
All pricing changes and promotions for telecommunications services must be approved by ICTQatar. This will apply to Vodafone as well.
Qtel is one of the very few operators world wide that offer free directory assistance / inquiries (180)
Qtel is also one of the few operators that has free local landline calls.
Qtel is generous to the community and gives back a great amount to promote health, education and sports in the State of Qatar. For more information, visit http://www.qtel.com.qa/Sponsorship.do
If you have any other questions or legitimate complaints about Qtel's products or services, I'll do my best to assist you.
What I heard of is that a new direct competitor will be coming in to challenge QTEL, that was really a good news for most expats who used to call to their love ones in their mother country because it means that there will gonna be a competition between the two in order to get customers, it would be a competition right then and not just a monopoly in a major telecommunication business.
maybe that's the reason why QTEL launched its free Hala SIM Card for QR50 promotion?!!!
Buddies dont day dream! nothing gonna change even if Qtel will have competitor. I have experienced the same in Dubai. They introduced "DU" juss because of international pressure to paint themselves to be called liberalized. Govt. should take initiative by opening the gates for global telecom giants. And then the difference can be seen in the quality and it would make feel good to the wallet too.
rate should be reduced...but since QTEL is the only telecom company in Qatar...i doubt it there will be any adjustments...i hope another company enters to spark competititon with Qtel.
btw, is Friday off peak all day?

so true it is ... walla when ever i charge my balance , after just just just 2-3 calls 30 Qrs finished ... its too damn costly ... and when people use to install net2phone type of softwares ... what happened "BLOCKED" ..
A call from india to Qatar costs approx. Qr.6 for 10 minutes,
while it costs Qr.30/- for the same from qatar. They are actually getting closer and connected to our wallet at all times as their slogan says ... Monoploy su.ks.
I dont think the new telecom operator in the region will make a big difference as they are controlled and regulated...

save if same one talk ?any one can see ?
it is too much
also, they should count by seconds not by each 15 seconds.
for example, if I talk 1:02
they will cost for 1:15

okay ...
as with ALL networks, some rates are good, some aren't.
it costs 1 pound 40 with t-mobile while roaming and it's free from Qtel for example.

Call's should be free lol
It's always the small things that make big differences.
to control illegal line connection from somewhere;)
shuld be cut down the rates......
in this way they can keep stick the customers with them..
its too much
I wish they cut down the rates......I have switched on to net calling
Qtel is losing customers even though its not in huge numbers.
YOU DONT KNOW ME, DONT EVEN TRY !!!
