Here in Al Ain, UAE, the buses run every thirty minutes and don't cover all areas, but they are still worth taking at AED2 a ride. How would you say public transportation in Doha compares? How much is bus fare? How is the coverage? Is it true that you can buy a monthly bus pass for QR97?
I appreciate the responses regarding bus transportation. I just now had a look at the Karwa website and the map of routes. If those routes are currently active and not just planned for the future, bus service in and around Doha seems to be good enough.
Public transportation is highly irregular. It is just in infancy. There is only one central bus station. All buses start and end there.Frequency of bus timings are not fixed and unpredictable hence unreliable and cannot be used for work commutation.Minimum bus fare is 2.50 QR.Prepaid bus card is available for 30QR.Top up can be done by payment.Coverage is only in main roads and bus stops are at long distances. No monthly pass is available. Maximum no. of buses is to industrial area.certain routes are overcrowded on Friday.Other are air.conditioned.Mainly used by labour community. Not too expensive. No bus nos. indicated in bus stops for buses which are stopping there and routes of buses are not clear.
I understand "forget it!" But why? Are the buses never on time? Are they overcrowded? Do they lack air-conditioning? Are they uncomfortable? Are they too expensive?
Do the buses in Doha run every hour, every thirty minutes, or more frequently? Many western expats would not recommend the public buses in Al Ain, because the buses do not run everywhere and only every 30 minutes, but they are good enough.
