Philipino Girl

By najmijpr

Few days ago we were going for our daughters health check up, on the signal our driver saw a girl from Philippine crying and asking for help. My wife called her and asked what happened? she started crying profusely. after a lot of effort she regained her senses and showed her swelled face and bruised hands, then she told us that she worked as a full time house maid with an Egyptian family, and was sponsored by them. The lady of the house treated her so badly, she was without food for two days and forced to do all the chores in the same condition. when she couldnt do chores to the lady's satisfaction she shouted at her and thn began kicking her and beating wid bamboo stick. she requested to give her belongings so that she could leave but she refused.she even snatched away her slippers..
Somehow she succeeded in running from there but had no money to go to the embassy..therefore we asked our driver to drop her thr..
It was really horrible to see a human being treating other in such inhumane manner..being maid dosent mean that a person has lost his/her dignity.

Their is so much racism here in the middle eastern countres. I've been all over the world and noticed its pretty bad here. Not only have I've seen it, but I've been a part of it. I dont tolerate it at all. I've even encountered a fight with two locals and won and didnt even get arrested because it was all caught on film. Man I like to whoop peoples a** once they get out of line.

Yes ingeniero -    and to think of that some of this maids have been to school, are graduates and even teachers but just to make a better living they come to this places to work and not to be abused and end up with employers or sponsors who dont even know to read and write but just because they have the money they think they have the power

By ingeniero• 14 Aug 2011 00:02

One BIG question, why qatar government is issuing maid visas to them?the most ignorant and illitrate people on earth :(lack of manners, not cultured, stupid, unhuman nature, lairs if by thousands of years preaching/teaching they didn't became good, then they can never be..

By Good old joe• 13 Aug 2011 23:13

My question is what are the authorities doing about this issues. It reflects badly on the country to see the poor, helpless and the less priveleged workers abused, beaten and treated this way and often  it is not by the locals but by other nationalities. There may be so many more cases of this type of workers but somehow they are to afraid to flee not knowing what trouble or problems they might get into and some of them put up with it till they can finally get their tickets and go away.

i experienced the same in Gharaffa and those two girls were from Indonisa One was crying and other was little Bold..... i was working in that area on site...suddenly saw both walking and crying, i took her with me at to there embassy. its really heart breaking. maids are also humans. those people are so cruel, they dont have a heart...

Hope the authorities  catch this guy and lock him up for a few weeks if at all and that they never allow this idiot to have another maid again. He or his wife can do the housework just like they were doing it back home in Egypt.

this has nothing to do with nationality or religion... this kind of abuse happens all over the world... documented or not... still no human has the right to hurt or even bad mouth another human... we all grew up differently... the community or the family that we grew with will definitely have a an effect as to how we treat other... not because you are the master of the house means that you are the master of my body and soul... to the person that helped our kababayan... thank you so much and to the assailant you know who you are... and even though you got away with what you did you will neven be able to hide from the eyes of THE ONE ABOVE US ALL...

The laws of the place be it here or elsewhere in the gulf gives rise to all this miseries for this helpless workers. The sponsors think that they have bought the maid as a slave and can do what they want.  The local goverment be it in Qatar or elsewhere in the gulf  treats this sponsors, be it Egyptians or others in a decent and respectable manner  then what is it that makes this sponsors be so inhumane and cruel to the less unfortunate. The goverment should have effective, severe and deterrent  punishment for this sponsors (Egyptians or others) so that this idiots dont spoil the good name and reputation of Qatar or the other countries where they come from

i don't encourage racism! but no buddy is above the law in Qatar, specially when they are not natives!in this kinda case an Ethiopian girl has left the country with 40000Qr by law.just because she asked me a ride to the nearest police station, and said thanks after i dropped her. and told me her story after she gets her rights! she said she was having three times daily meal for about twenty days in prison and she had no harm!but her sponsors kept her a month in a room with no AC and two days with no food so the problem is not because her sponsors being Egyptian! its be cause no buddy told her what to do and where to go.shits happen every were, so people stop complaining about a person who hurt u just because u couldn't defend u r self right!!!

As much as possible I don't want to generalize the Egyptians...Honestly, I have a very bad experience with an egyptian. He even used the Holy Koran just to convince my Qatari boss that he is the one telling the truth. But you know, Qataris are also aware of their attitude. My boss never believed him. Conservatively, 2 out of 10 are good. Of the two, one is really good. The other one is only good in front of you, and without knowing he is already back stabbing you...

Happy Happy said "...most of those who replied left the real issue, and showed their hatred, racism and jealousy, I think they're profoundly repressed and suppressed for many obvious reasons.... I feel sorry for them and for the abused girl, if this story is true."

Yes, IF the story is true. What's the other side of the story? Some people are quick to jump to conclusions where the scenario suits their hobby horse.

There are a few instances in other countries where the maids actually cause a lot of trouble for their employers. Some employers are, of course, really emotionally skewered and mental but no one would know unless they were there as witnesses. Otherwise, the rest is mere conjecture.

Welcome to 21st Century slavery, people! Not mentioning nationalities at all, I'd like to say that Qatar is spoiling expatriates here. They get high salaries, quality living, great cars, cheap stuff...and cheap labor to slave for them at their homes. They beat, insult, force them to do many different things for only 700-800QR! I am shocked as to how some people who can leave in a big villas in compounds force little women to wash their cars, clean their villas several times in a day!!! and not give them day offs! Those ppl feel like kings and queens here! Screw them big times!

i heard a lot of stories of the same kind involving egyptian lady employer,

we must warn you kabayans, if you knew that your employer to be is egyptian, have a second thought. no need to generalized them but you have to take it seriously because your safety must be your first concern.

if you refuse to be their maid maybe they will wake up and make up their mind for what they have done.if there is no maid being hired by them, they might think of their own attitude. we must give emphasized otherwise they will just ignore it.

our embassy should ban the employer from hiring filipina maid. all race of people who has the highest rate of maltreating the houshelper must be ban from hiring filipinas.

they must undergone behaviour training. humane act training before they can hire. otherwise hire their own people.

to the one who rescue and help our kabayan, may our God grant you peace and have a good heart always...thanks

for the poor girl, i hope that the embassy/polo will help her. i hope that she will not be forced to go back to the employer or to the agency just to be threatened that she will pay all her moving-in expenses and ticket going home.

Anyways that’s the truth about the Philippine Embassy.

Many women are there without a proper mattress or bed lying in the ground in this winter. The officers will come and rape them as much as they want, they use some good-looking woman for even two three years without sending them home. The modern jahilliya is inside that Embassy. Some of them stay without food for many days. Once my wife's friends gave some food to give those poor girls inside the Embassy through the Security Guards, on the next visit they came to know that no food was given to them.

Some people are very critical on how they judge people based on nationality, for example egyptians...Okay..lets just accept the fact that some of them are rude. but this kind of bad treatment almost happens anywhere, even in the philippines. from filipino employers.

Instead of pointing fingers to other nationalities or people who are mistreating other people, lets just make sure that we ourselves are not causing harm or mistreating other people in anyway.

.... we're back to harping on one nationality again.

A few bad ones don't make up the entire population so why generalize it?

This poor woman could have been working for any nationality.... Im American (married to an Egyptian) and worked in south africa for 4 years... in south africa, some of the friends I had with their own south african maids were absolutely dispicable!!! Really terrible to them!

I hear the same of others nationalities here.... basically, a lot of people simply decide to treat those that provide a service to us (paid or not) like crap... like they are well beneath us.

Someone mentioned Kharma.... absolutely!!! what you put out there comes back.... Its unfortunate if one person experiences a 'bad egyptian' that you'll lose out on friendship with 'good ones'.... the same with a qatari or indian or german.

I wish the best for that poor woman... the employers should be beat upside the head! Idiots!

Obviously, you have a shallow racist mind, or else this won't be your earliest comments:

Hu Wan said The Phil. govt. should ban ...

sending filipino women to work as domestics here in the MidEast! How many of our women have suffered much, not only from egyptians, but from nationals of the countries they serve in. Here's the the list of countries the most number of abuse our women get: Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar.

Tell me, what do these countries have in common?

Followed by this:

Hu Wan said Natur, they are all working in an Islamic country ...

which purports to have a law and religion so intertwined you won't distinguished one from the other. These countries I have listed have the highest record is abuses according to the statistics, like Jordan which is top on the list.

But there may be more which are undocumented because the govt. simply dismiss, or sweeps it under. How many cases of rape have we read and heard over the news back home. It makes our hearts bleed because each one of them belongs to us. She may be our mother, aunt, or sister. Pisses me much hearing their sad stories. What have they done to deserve such a fate? It's my personal advocacy to discourage any filipina to work in the MidEast as a domestic helper. These places don't deserve the loving and caring that our people are known for.

Let them hire their own kind and do whatever they like for all we care!!!

Where is the friendly open minded share of opinions in your comments? You generalized and pre-judged people according to thier Religion and Race by listing Arabic Muslim countries and asking what they have in common, followed by your own answer that they are all Islamic Countries. So it is like you are missleading the non muslim people by telling that Muslims are abusers and rapers.

I actually feel pity for you more than the maid herself. I know nothing about her and what she has done, and so i won't prejudge or feel pity unless I listen to both parties and make sure of what exactly happened. All I know is that she was crying in the street and told her own story to the one who picked her up from the street. I don't know if she was caught by the mother while xxxking the little 8 years old boy or playing his thing. Or if she was caught with the indian driver in her room, or if she was caught stepping on a baby face and hitting him because he keeps crying.

It can be as simple as this, she was caught with 3 indian drivers in her room. So the owner of the house grapped her hair and kicked her out and while calling the Police to come and get the drivers and maid, she escaped. Naturally, she won't tell the one who helped her that she was caught with 3 drivers.

I hear lots of stories like that and even worse. I hear it from people. I read it in newspapers and other media sometimes, and i persronally witnessed such actions. Last incident was infront of Sana shop in Ras Abu Aboud. I saw 3 little kids(maybe qataris because of what they dress) and they were playing with the maid. One has touched her butt and she was like ahh bad boy..and then she get in the car and send him a kiss with her hand. The boys were not more than 9 years old. Another story was a maid who cut my sister's braclett with i dont know what and stole it! My sister was only 4 yrs old!! and my mother did not even try to abuse her because this is not our nature. She suspected her and she searched all her room, but the maid keeps crying that she is not like that with those pity tears. At the end, my mother asked my father to leave the room and searched her body. Guess where she found the bracelet. She found it crumbled and hidden in the maid's bra! I witnessed that in my house when i was 7 and still remember that. Simply my mother deported her back home the second day in the early morning. She did not touch hit her or anything like that. She did not report that to the police, although in my opinion she should had done that and it will end the maid in jail for couple of months followed by deporting her back home. So many other stories of what maids do..

By the way, what does abuse mean for you? torturing the maid physically? or shouting at her and deporting her like what my mother did to that maid?

Naturally, I will feel pity for any woman crying even without knowing her reason or story, but I will never prejudge people acording to thier RELIGION or/and RACE just because i see the woman crying. Once I hear from both parties, then i will conclude who is worth it to feel pity for and help. This is not only my opinion, but it is the fair law in any country.

I actually feel pity for someone like you who indirectly prejudge humans according to thier religion and race because of either the shallow mind that you have by following some missleading media and press instead of following your ownself and mind, or it is just the envey and hate that you have deep inside you on Islam. The point of the thread was not religion or race(nationality), but from your first comment, you listed coutries by name and religion (Islam) as if this is what the thread is all about. This is what I call envey pathatic and blind people.

I feel sorry for the maid if she was innocent and abused for nothing.

Simply don't send your mama and sister here or just go home before some people from those countries that you have listed will abuse you and rape you tonight. You better hurry up and go home before you loose your virginity(although i have doubts on that) because most of the people here are muslims..

Guys, sorry for the last paragraph but this is the only way I can speak to this person to reach his pity mind.

Do you want them to be as same as some of those in west countries standing in the street selling them selves?

What rights you want to give them?

Before speaking go and read the rights that Islam gave to the Muslim women.

Be honest and look at the reality.

Islam tells the man to be loyal to his wife and some western people say no let the man go and f**k and do what ever he wants.

The Muslim women rights is something bigger than this thread.

All people here who called names to Egypt and Egyptians wouldn't dare to face an egyptian with a single word of what they said here, you know why?

because of the same reason they all mentioned, they are cruel, aggressive ... etc.

bless your kind heart a thousandfold for the kind assistance.

this is the beauty of blogging sites. we learn to understand profoundly human behavior and individual differences by observing and reading posts where in the end made us draw several conclusions about issues and human behavior in itself. only by digging deeper into the issues, we learn to understand thereby avoiding premature conclusions.

we have to both look at the sides of the coin. why was the maid treated such badly? why was the master acted to horribly? stereotyping can never improve the chaotic workld we deal in, thus simply compounding the strength of the bomb called racisim.

There are racists all over the world, as you can see on this thread, most of those who replied left the real issue, and showed their hatred, racism and jealousy, I think they're profoundly repressed and suppressed for many obvious reasons.

For the other few balanced voices, I admire your wisdom and effort to analyze the root cause instead of yapping like the rest.

Let them vent here, I feel sorry for them and for the abused girl, if this story is true.

Salam

By anonymous• 2 Nov 2009 09:46

taking this whole matter practically is a phase, and placing curses and the worst words ever on a certain nationality coz anyone of you have a PERSONAL experience with it is another issue, so let's take it step by step.

Western families that maids PREFERE to go to .. those countries have the HIGHST raping, abuse and crime percentage all along with the US, its not me saying its the official counts, and if you dont have any knowledge of that you can watch Hollywood movies, especially the real stories ones based on crimes.

Arab countries have much safer environment, AND MOSTLY IMPORTANT more money that's why western families come here or else why they do, they could stay still at thier home COUNTRY.

to all those members who used words like bastards and bad ... etc. i never ever felt hatred like this thread, what's happening exactly, why didnt anyone of you asked a logic question, what did this maid do to deserve that?

for your info I knew families who thier flipino maid sexually abused thier kids, so why dont every one of you put himself in this lady's shoes then let's see what he will do, doesnt mean its the right re-action to take, but NEVER blame the reaction, first ask what was the action, NO PERSON IS ABSOLUTELY BAD AND NO PERSON EVER IS ABSOLUTELY GOOD.

I will ask one question, Have anyone of you ever heard of an angel-like maid and although this her landlord abuses her, never, or may be rare cases when they have problems, always the maid is the poor side of the equation, although she could steal, break, ruin your kids, and after all that you are to be blamed, you are the monster, I am quit sure that major of participants on this thread are singles who dont know what means a home, kids and a real responsibility life means.

Anyhow let's return to our seconed issue, Egyptians are bad ... why coz they have loud voice? all mediterenians have, they fight, also those are features of most of Arabs, but Egyptians tend to win the fight, that's why they r bad, meeting one, two or even 20 egyptians in your whole life wouldnt place anyone of you to judge 80 million population country, you got the scale its 20:80000000 how much is that, do the calculation, as you are smart all of you.

And if everyone of you told me his nationality, I swear to god I will tell you forgery and abuse stories more that you can imagin.

we cant judge on each other absolute judgements coz that sucks, Plus no one here is qualified to do so, so Plz no raciest opinions, no religious openions, and no politics ... as at the end of the day we are all expats who left our countries for different reasons, but one aim.

showaffairs. I was thinking the same as you before. I thought that there is no single egyptian who can be trusted. Simply, because i never met any who you can rely on as trusted friend, but guess what? My sister got married to an Egyptian. When I knew that there is an egyptian who asked for her hand, my first reaction was hell no! did u loose your mind?! Egyptian? I have never met a good egyptian and you know it well! please think it all over again. My family asked about him and sent people who we know in Egypt to ask about him and everybody has said good things about him. My parents asked my sister and she accepted him. She knew him before. He was a regular client on thier workplace and seems like they liked each other. He simply asked her for my family home number and called the house. If he was bad, he would not have marriage intention and would rather prefered to play around.

They are married for 3 years now and they are one of the happiest couple i have ever seen. I found him polite, respected with an open mind and well educated. Never said a bad thing and always good to others. She is lucky.

You know that Egyptian population is more than 80 million, so you can expect to meet lots of bad untrused people from Egypt. Lets say half of them are bad. This means 40 million and lots of them are working abroad, but if we look at qatar population, we will find that Qataris are not more than lets say 300 000 citizen. Half of this is 150 000. Out of the 150 000, you might find only 10 000 living abroad or visiting other countries such as Thailand for example. You might find 9900 of those visiting Thailand are very bad people with very bad intentions. Will this make you prejudge Qataris and tell all Qataris are bad?

By the way, I have a simple question. I have not been in the Philippines yet, but i am planning to visit Philippines and some other neighbouring countries. Is Philippines free from misstreating women and abuses?

I have many filipino friends and I heared good and bad things about it. Some has told me that citizens themself are very careful and afraid of thier belongings when they use public transportation. About drunk people at nights all over the city. About gangs kidnapping women and beating them up for some reason (revenge or whatever), about Kulam...etc. About men cheating thier women all the time and so on.

Also, I heard good things like the beautiful landscape. The open minded educated and friendly people and so on.

I have friends who were living here and they moved to Canada or Australia or any other Western country. They are filipina as well. Know what they said? They said it is not safe at all there for women, especially at nights.

What najmipr mentioned could be true and yes you guys hear stories about rapes and abuses in the middle east, but I bet on that they are not as much as in other countries including Philippines itself. Its just that there are over one million made from the Philippines in the middle east and so you will naturally hear about stories like that.

Have you ever heard about what dirty and very bad things some maids were doing to the children and they were caught. Me myself have seen this very dirty and disgusting behaviour of one maid to (I think a Qatari) kid infront of Sana shop months ago. Should I come here and post a thread about it and many other stories we hear in media about what maids are doing here?

Now please, don't generalize and pre-judge people according to thier race, or religion, or nationality. By the way, I am not Egyptian:)

What has they done to deserve such a fate? I will tell you what have they done. They went to those countries although they know how it is over there. As you have said, you hear lots of rape and abuse stories in those countries. Then why do you send your relatives there?

Religion has nothing to do with it. If this is how your mind is, then i feel pitty for it, because actually Islam respects women and give them all thier human rights. You can think whatever you want about Islam and i won't preach you because I don't see it worth it. I also have my own opinion about your religion.

Wifes in US are abused as well and everywhere else, so don't tell that abuses in Muslim countries are more than anywhere else. If its true, the reason is more of your people tend to work in the middle east. If there are 1 million maid in the middle east and 10 000 maid in europe, then most likely you will hear about more abuses in the middle east.

The woman or any family do this they r not Muslims or they r far a way from Islam ,and never count that where they r from and there Nationality . but what it count is if they r far from God and Islam or not.

The family of the house, to improve the treatment of domestic servants, and respect the God in them, there is no difference at all between the server and Makhdoom to God Almighty, and we have in the Messenger of God (a good example was narrated from Anas - may Allah be pleased with him - said: "I served the Messenger of Allah (nine years told me what I do know cat: I have not done this or that, and nibble on anything at all.

Re-read or have someone read my posts to you. I'd still have wished you've taken the girl to the police station, instead of taking her back to the original perpetrators, who will get her back to wherever she came from. I'm sure you meant well.

I'll have to thank you for getting out of your way on that day to help a stranger in need.

Najmijpr, As a Filipino citizen, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the kindness you have shown to my poor fellow Kababayan (countrymen). I felt pity for them (Helpers). Being deprived of proper education in our country was the main the reason why many of them accepted low paying job and quite risky knowing that they have to work inside a house of a strangers much more to a foreign land. Unfortunately, this type of problem is recurring and will never stop from happening again not unless our Country will be able to stand from its' own feet enough to sustain its people so that Filipino ladies will be spared from being sent abroad to work as Helper/Maids. Only then, some of these foreign Bastard will come to realize how important these people are noting some of thier common lifestyle which shows their extreme laziness beyond you can imagine and not to mention many of them smells like a rotten pig meat.

Dear All,

With respect to all above comments, i would to point out the following:

1- This behavior has nothing to do with nationality neither religion.

2- When X nationality holder acts to take a bad action, we can generalize the case.

3- But on the other hand if each one of us sees him self as an ambassador to his country and religion as well, we will be good to each other.

without any doubts we are grateful for what you did to that poor girl.

You are very correct Tatess, employment agencies should track and monitor the workers that they sent abroad at all times to protect their welfare. Our employment agencies for me is the first culprit in this specific problem. If they just give a little more of effort, this would not often happen.

Anyway, like Nephi said, in behalf of the filipino community here in doha, thanks to a good hearted fellow like you, though we filipino's and indians such as yourself sometimes battle here in QL, we still have our unity in times of trouble.:):)

A boy went to a burber (hair dresser) to get his hair cut and the burber nade a bad cut, the egyptian mother saw the boy (her son) and became very angry, she told the boy go to the burber and tell him that he is invited for lunch, the burber became happy, when the burber reached the mother house, he was taken inside and tightened on a chair and the mother came and started beating him.

Sadly, a lot of cases like that and I guess majority of the principals are egyptian...i'm just wondering why....These people when visiting to our country, we treat them with so much respect but they treat us badly, regardless of what the condition is, they are not suppose to do that...

I dont want to believe that nationality has anything to do with this type of cruelty or misbehave or manners but I have seen the same situation several times especially Egyptians.

I have noticed mostly egyptians are bad in conversation, manners and and far behind with etiquette. Always they are ready to fight. I dont mean 100% egyptian are like that but most of them are. Even I have seen Egyptian ladies are also having the same nature.

I have seen in Qatar 2 Egyptians families in my apartment whose husband was beating his wife very roughly and she was crying all the day. her weeping and crying sound could be listen easily from my flat. I was very disappointed with this type of cruelty but I could not do anything bcoz they were family and having young children.

it is so sad.

I agree with Don roberts statement... need to revise sponsorship law...

By Don Robert• 1 Nov 2009 11:32
Don Robert

Sponsorship rule is one thing but animal behaviors of employers is another thing...even if there's no sponsorship problem here, things like this would still happen due to the unacceptable attitudes of some employers.

By GodFather.• 1 Nov 2009 11:30

GodFather.

The core issue here is bad treatment of a maid by the Sponsor family not the nationality of parties involved, This kind of bad treatment is only because of the Sponsorship rules in this part of the world, which are no short than Slavery. .

Until these are changed the same will happen again and again, either be a flipina, an Eithopean, Indonesian or a Sri Lankan maid.
