New Rent Law Complication

Hi,

Anybody here about to renew their rent contract? My landlord just called me asking me to renew our contract maybe after reading the new rent law that is already in effect. My last contract would be expring this March 31 so I got a liitle bit surprise (confused?) why he is asking for renewal this early. The worst part is he is asking an increase of QR1000. I thought all rent increases are freezed until the Rent committe decides on the new rate of increase. I then asked him if he is going to register our new contract as stipulated on the new rent law but he got mad about it. I think this is one of the loop holes in the new rent law. That if the landlord doesnt register the contract then you are not protected by the new rent law. How do we know that he did register it anyway? How do the committee knows what our last rent fee is to say that the landord is in violation of increasing too much on the rent? Please can someone enlighten me before I discuss the matter with my landlord.

Of course you will have a copy of the contract, or must demand a copy and on the 19th this month you go to the newly set up office and discuss your grievances. Don't go on for the new contract, there is time for you to renew.
