Need for a good car mechanic & cost

Hi all, I am currently renting a car which has only got third-party insurance and not fully insured. Its a Nissan Tiida 2008 model. I hit the front of the car to a wall and the front side of it came off quite badly. Since I am new to Doha, I dont know if I should get it fixed myself since rent-a-car company will charge me probably 3 times of mechanic's cost.

So my question is can someone kindly tell me address of a good mechanic (someone who does not rip me off too much) who can fix it within a few hours (honestly speaking, it should be around 2-3 hours job)? Secondly, do I need to show any paperwork to the mechanic of any kind? Also how much a mechanic will cost me here in Doha?

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi all, thanks for all your help and co-operation. After returning the car, the rent-a-car people called me and said that the total cost of repair and police report comes out to be QAR 700 (so I have to pay all of it). I was not too upset about paying the cost, because before returning the car, I took it to a garage which gave me an estimate of QAR 450 as charge to fix the damage. Therefore, the cost that rent-a-car company charged was not over the moon, so I am okay with it. Thanks distantfocus for sharing your story; as I didnt want to get entangled in that rent-a-car suspicion web. Kind Regards.

If the excess is QAR 1,000, you'll will have to only pay that, rest is claimed from insurance - your understanding is correct. Not sure whether they'll charge you QAR 100 additional for getting a police report - as you do need a police report eventually to repair your car.

Thanks so much all of you for your helpful suggestions and comments.

Last night, after deliberate thinking, I returned the car to the rental agency, and told them that it was my fault. The rental people told me that the car has got some kind of insurance (quite basic level I suppose) and there is an excess of QAR 1000. I dont know anything about insurances, but I guess it means that if the total cost to do the denting & painting (as per rip-off workshop prices where all rental cars will go) is suppose QAR 1800, then I'll pay the first QAR 1000 and the insurance will pay the remaining QAR 800. Is my understanding correct? So does that basically means that I practically have to pay maximum of QAR 1000, and the insurance will pay the rest? Cheers

I don't know if getting fixed in a couple of hours is do-able unless it's really not a huge operation. Otherwise, can someone please tell me what mechanic in the industrial area ever REFUSED a repair job because the customer didn't have a police report? Seriously.

A friend of mine took his rental to the industrial area to get it fixed, and he got a call the next morning from the rental car company saying "WE KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST NIGHT" lol. Apparently THEY have to take care of it, AND charge you that 3000 QR penalty or whatever it is they think is worth charging. Sucks though because I know a guy who can fix it for dirt cheap. PM me if you wanna take the chance anyway. Gluck!

right you do have to inform the rental shop or else they will charge you double even after repairing

Besides a police report, do inform the rental car co. Mention that you'll bear the cost of the repair cause if you do it on the sly and the repair is not upto standard, then the rental car co. will impose a penalty anyways on you. You'll end up paying both the cost!!!!

will repair without the police report!

It is a rule here and they are quite strict about it.

All the denting works being done now in Industrial Area.

The police report is in case there is an outstanding 'Hit and run' case, everything is tightly controlled here.

The Car Hire company will most likely be informed from the police report, in the same way that speeding fines are logged.

AP.. If yer want to get it fixed listen to everyone on this thread. There may be a few mechanics who may do the repair for you. But that would against the rules here.

So mate no one is joking, its the law here!. The other thing do not mention to the car company that you repaired the car as they will not accept any repair that is not carried out by Nissan main garage!

No one is joking with you.

In order to get your car repaired (whether through Insurance or otherwise) you need to have a police report.

It is quite straight forward.

Really, I need to get a police report !!! This is hillarious, that I need to go to police to tell them that I have hit a wall of my office's building and little damage happened on the front. Are you both serious? Let me tell you again that I have not hit anyone or anyone's car; I have just hit the wall with the front side of my car. It seems to me as if you guys are joking with me :-) Regards

I think you will find that if the front / side came off quite badley then it will take a bit longer than you think, the paint job alone will be time consuming, unless the replaced parts are a perfect match.

get police report

you cant just go and get it fixed

then go to industrial area to any garage and get it fixed

you still will have to pay for the damaged parts

You need a police report ... and probably an eye test!
