Moving to Doha
Hi,
I am a 21 year old female living in Surrey, England.
My partner has been offered a job in Doha and is hoping for us both to move there by the end of the year. If i'm completely honest, this scares the life out of me and so I have quite a few questions:
What is it like for women living in Qatar? Can I wear dresses and shorts etc?
Are there many job opportunities? I am working has an administrator at the moment but am happy to try anything.
Would i be able to make friends??
Is there much to do on the weekends?
Most importantly, is it a safe country? I have heard some terrible things about neighbouring countries.
Your help would be so much appreciated!!
In regards to the safety factor, is is very safe here. We feel a hundred times safer here than we did in the States.
Moving into a different country completely different is not for every soul; it needs to be in you, the ability to accept and adapt with other cultures and respect it the way it is. It can be a very rewarding experience.
Hi We have lived in Doha for 2 years coming from Manchester and I wish we had made the move 30 years ago. Yes we are wrinklies, but life is to live and not be scared of. 1 you and your partner must be married to live together, 2 shorts and skirts to the knee, cover midrif and shoulders. There are less restrictions than in England no tax and great weather. Do you know what it's like to go out every day without thinking do I need an umbrella, cardigan or coat. It takes a while to make friends as it does anywhere. There are one or two things I should worn you about, do not use the bidet in the summer as there is no cold water and you can get burned. You do not get coinage as change, you get a pack of chewing gum. The standard of driving is terrible, but we love it. Best of luck
YOu cannot live together unless you get married - don't risk it
Can I wear dresses and shorts etc?
Yes but not too short.
Are there many job opportunities? I am working has an administrator at the moment but am happy to try anything.
There are plenty of opened positions all around Doha. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.
Would i be able to make friends??
From the 1 million people leaving in this country (mainly in Doha) i'm sure you can make some friends.
Is there much to do on the weekends?
Weekends here are considered family days. But that shouldn't be a problem. If they see a couple entering the mall they will not stop you.
Most importantly, is it a safe country?
You needn't worry. At the moment there is absolutely nothing to fear from the neighboring countries. Just keep your eyes widely opened on the road... There are a lot of people who don't care much for the street signs.
