Maids coming from 5 new countries

Qatar is expected to receive housemaids from new sources around the world and the domestic helps are expected to be paid in the range of $200- $250, government officials have said.

The new countries likely to send maids to Qatar include Vietnam, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Cambodia and Bangladesh. Representatives from Labour and Interior Ministries have already visited these countries and signed agreements to recruit maids and skilled workers.

In the meantime, the already existing sources would continue sending their workforce to Qatar, it was pointed out.

The new initiative is meant to reduce the “high” recruitment cost of QR11,000 for a single maid as well as opening up the market for more options.

The Manila government has earlier demanded that the minimum salary of a Filipina maid to be $400, which is considered high among locals.

Brigadier Mohamed al-Atiq, assistant director of the Interior Ministry’s Immigration and Passport Department, said that official visits had been conducted to the new source countries to agree upon necessary formalities and procedures for the recruitment process.

But recruiting maids from Europe and other new Asian and African countries has raised doubts among some locals whether it would really work due to culture differences, language barriers and salary expectations.

I cannot for the life of me comprehend morons who act in such manner and "traffic" in humans.

I hope that he is severly punished and the poor women are compensated properly. I said I hope, because I doubt whether anything will be done :O(

TV footage showed him beating and kicking housemaids in a 'safe house"

The man was found beating and kicking housemaids kept in detention by Saudi agents, before they were sent to various sponsors in the kingdom.

The housemaids were assaulted because they did not want to go to houses chosen by the local agent.

Saudi job agents are obtaining visas for domestic help under the now banned “court wakala” system to recruit women and then detain them in a safe house before being sent to their employers.

poor people are more squeezed,, they say $400 is expensive salary for a maid . how funny... the people who spend 400 dollars in a single visit to beauty saloons and other recreations want to work one person 24 hours for them at $200 or 250 and those poor people have no option ... great deal Qatar government.

and when will they get them from Europe, the USA and from South America. The sky seems to be the limit. Hopefully the new recruits will be allowed to get away if they dont like the job instead of being made to complete their contracts

hahha @ Vietnam. Those women dont listen to abuse and ignore it and they most definitely do not allow themselves to be oppressed/enslaved.

These are people who made world superpowers cry due to sheer will and pride. Trust me, qatar DOES NOT want Vietnamese maids.
