25K is a good amount even if it does include accomodation and transport costs. My ex boss is here as a Sr.Manager in one of the Big 4 Consulting firms and he gets 25.5 K. He has an overall 12 years of industry experience. He is here with his family.Kids are in school.They make vacations every six months atleast.Go to India once a year.Have memberships in tennis and golf clubs. Party alot. And SAVE. He is a very good friend of mine even today and he tells me that his salary is a lot of money.

About your comparison with locals - Well,world is not a fair place anyways.What you have heard is absolutely correct. Expats are conventially considered cheap labour but this perception has changed dramatically in last 2 years. Now we are Knowledge Workers. But the fact remains. Here you will find a large population of expats involved in menial jobs and that is sufficient for forming a general opinion about us. Also,the government here has always promoted local employment through a system known as Qatarization which has been extensively adopted by all the companies here and there is nothing anyone can do about it.I'am an expat too;but I'am not fully against Qatarization. It makes a lot of sense for the locals and they should definitely get priority and advantage.

Bottomline - Your Salary is good for a decent living here.

Life is Beautiful...Indeed!

Most Malaysians in Qatar live an average normal life, not so lavish(not like expats living in Malaysia).

To live an average life here, you can expect to spend the following :

House Rental + Utilities (3 bedroom flat) = QAR 10 k

Transport = QAR 3 k

Food = QAR 5 k

School fees & bus for your 5 year old = QAR 3 k/ month (most Malaysians send their kids to QIS, Cambridge or Newton)

Miscellaneous = QAR 1 k

TOTAL = QAR 22,000/ month.

When the other kids start their schooling that will add more financial burden on you.

Mind you, there is no EPF contribution here.

Mind you, when you send $ back to Malaysia, you get net of 92 % of the QAR amount in RM term under current exchange rate.

I have stayed here for almost 2 years now and I can see costs of living keep on increasing....at a very fast rate.

Dude's he's getting 25k a month not a year (I know not everyone misunderstood him).

Depending on the life, your biggest expense will be accommodation and school fees.

I suggest requesting at least one or the other.

But I assure you that you will be able to save a significant amount. I imagine you'd at least get some at least 'starting' allowance if you're getting 25k and have a family.

You cannot save QR 10K from 25k if you company is not providing house ane transport.

Housing will cost you QR 7500 -10000 for a normal 2/3 bedroom semi furnished flat.

Transport another QR 2500-3000

Education for child- QR 1500-2000

Add another QR 3000-5000 your normal expenses incl. medical.

This is approximate calculation. As you know that it purely depends on how luxury people are.

Dear All,

Thanks for your input. If I were to go Qatar alone and leave my family back in Malaysia. QR 25k per month, would I be able to survive plus keep a saving of QR 10K?

25,000 riyal a year? Apartments cost like 3,000 or more a month for a small one. I wouldn't go for it.

I have run thru most of it but not sure whether the amount they offer me is fair and reasonable.

I have met up with a friend who were in Qatar two years ago as CEO of a bank, he told me there are expatriate going qatar is just a low cost labor. Reason being is a local resident from Qatar can get average of USD 15K - 20K a month, where an expatriate who hold senior manager post may get USD 10 K a month. Is that true??

That's why I wish to get input from you guys who might know the average income for Project Manager in a bank.

Thanks..:)
