Job offer from Exxon Qatar & cost of livings

conface
By conface

Hi forumers,

I'm a Malaysian and is recently being offered to work with ExxonMobil Qatar for QR16.5k basic + QR6.5k housing allowance, bringing total package to QR23K monthly. They have not told me of any other allowances so I assumed none.

I'll be coming alone & intend to rent a small apartment for my own stay only.

My questions are:-

1. Is the offer reasonable?
2. What are the monthly cost of livings in Doha? Such as electricity, water, grocery, food, car rental, taxes, apartment rental, gym, phone, etc.
3. How much to spend on each cost?
4. After all the monthly living costs, how much I can save monthly?

Constructive feedbacks are most welcome! Thanks much.

Studio apartment - QR3,500

Electricity & water - 200-250 (if you have a studio)

Food & misc - QR3,500 (I think it will be lesser)

Groceries - 500 (you're single + you've accounted for food)

Car rental - 2000 (good car), but for that amount monthly, you can buy a car.

Petrol - 1 ltr = 0.80 QAR, yeh that is how cheap it is

Mobile charges - depends on your usage

I am a Singaporean.. and you have a good package.. especially when you exchange it back to RM.

Cars and petrol is cheaper here too. Just have to get used to driving on the other side.

Life here is ok if you are 40+. If you are 20+, it may be a bit quiet. but with that type of package you can easily go for breaks every 3 months.

Exxon is a good company so no need to think twice.. just come as fast as your legs can carry you.

I am not sure about the food and others at QR2500 max. To me that is about the min. and I am eating maggie noodles most of the time. Fastfood about once a week and it is already more than QR2500. Gocery bills is abit more ex. about 25 - 30% more than in Sg/Malaysia. There is a carrefour here.. so most of the things are available.. just a bit more ex.

You will be able to lead a comfortable life with 23K, a 3 bedroom apt now is in the range of 6500-8000, depending on the area.

But what are your qualifications/ areas of expertise? Are you being compensated accordingly?
