Job offer in Doha

Hi Members,

I have recently been offered a job in Doha. The salary offered is QAR 40k per month all inclusive. I will be moving from Dubai where I get a 30% lower salary than this. Would request your kind comments on the following:

1. How much will I have to pay for a good (not premium) 2 bedroom accommodation in Doha? Which are the good areas to live in.
2. What is the monthly cost of living. I am talking about 2 adults, 1 infant. Eat out all weekend. I like to live comfortably and indulge in luxuries sometimes.
3. How are the medical facilities in Doha?
4. Are there good international schools?
5. Is my salary decent? I would want to save 40-50% of my salary every month. Is it possible?

Much appreciate your responses.

Thanks bluepantherback. I'm also being offered medical, club, furniture, car, tickets and schooling for 2 kids in addition to the 40K. Will be visiting Qatar in the coming week to check the place out and ascertain if I am being sufficiently remunerated for what I will miss in Dxb....

Btw Ignore Jhonnkari, he has no clue what he’s talking about. I’m Indian and my monthly take home is QAR 65K – excluding medical, club member ship, business class tickets home, furniture allowance and schooling for 4 kids (even though I do not have any). Nothing too great cause I do know other Indians who earn much more than that – I used to have access to the financials and working papers ;-)

40K is mid range but a decent pay package – you mention tech so no idea on your qualifications, experience but since you say it is 30% more, I would say its good. Cost of living similar to Dubai but is on the increase – check other posts in this regards. Qatar is a growing market and professionalism is improving (still a long way to go). You'll feel it is backward in everything compared to Dubai but the pace is much slower so you’ll have time for family.

New Co’s set up in Qatar are looking globally for the best resources based on skillsets and qualifications – not on nationality. I’m happy here and this is home for me.

Saving is dependent on lifestyle. Its all up to you. @ 40K you'll be able to save.

WOW. Without even knowing what my qualification is and the job that is being offered to me, you all have concluded that I can't be offered 40k because of my nationality? Sorry to disappoint you folks; that is indeed the offer but I am seriously thinking whether I should make this move. It may be hostile to work in Doha if people around me would think that someone from my nationality dont deserve such a salary.

G269, check this site please. Different packages are discussed almost everyday here.i prefer not to comment on your question. Indians can get this kind of package n more, it's not unheard of, but it's not that easy either. School fees can be a major expenditure depending upon the school you prefer. What's included in your package?

40K A MONTH FOR INDIAN???? I DONT THINK SO. EVEN THE HIGHEST POSITION FOR ANY INDIAN NATIONALS AT PRESENT HERE IN DOHA DOES NOT RECEIVE 40K A MONTH EVEN YOU INCLUDE ALL THE ALLOWANCES. 40K IS EQUAL TO THE SALARY OF A QATARI WHO IS IN A SUPERVISORY POSITION. EVEN IF YOUR POSITION IS SUPERVISOR, YOU WILL NOT GET THAT AMOUNT AS SALARY.

Han, you said "Your profile states that you are a Indian, based on that, I would say the package is good."

Do you mean to say that if I wasnt Indian, the package would not be good? Would I be getting paid more if I were a non-India?

Please do a ql search, this issue is repeatedly discussed here.

Your profile states that you are a Indian, based on that, I would say the package is good.
