Job hunting.

I recently moved to Doha and currently seeking employment. I have sent out quite a few online applications but have not received responses from anyone; not even to acknowledge receipt of the applications. Am I missing something. Is there another way that job applications are done here. I have masters degrees in education administration and teaching English as a second language. I would appreciate any job hunting tips that you can give. Thank you.

Hi,

1) Online applications usually take time considering there's on average 300 applications to a vacancy. Might be lower for your field/profession though.

2) Not sure if it's suitable for your profession again but you could try posting a 'situation wanted' ad in the newspaper (Gulf Times). You'll need to go to their office on C-Ring road.

3) You could try targeted applications in the sense that you could go in person to the education institutions and let them know you're available. (Qatar Foundation and all the foreign universities come to mind)

4) The most important thing is to be patient. Things move slowly here and you could have some waiting on your hands. I personally looked for almost a year after my MBA. Also I hate to say this but your age range could be a factor (no anti-discrimination scenes in place here). Just as in your country, here too they all say they are equal opportunity but nuanced discrimination exists everywhere I'm sure you know.

Anyways, don't lose heart and hang in there. Just keep trying. With your experience/qualifications, I'm sure there's a great opportunity waiting for you. Like I said specifically target the international universities operating here and also Qatar Foundation. Best of luck:-)
