How much is your food budget in one month?

How much do you spend per month just for food?
Assuming you are single, is 300-500 QR sufficient enough for your food budget?

Aj if you really want to save, you will make every effort to save.

Please note that your lifestyle is different from this people. They can spend 10K for thier food if they earn 60K a month.

I saw your package in the other thread. QR500 could be enough for you if you intend to cook all the time. If you share food with other people that would benefit you more. So its really up to you.

Fried, I may be able to answer this.

For example, most Westen people buy meat importd from the West, which is more expensive than that from, let's say

Sudan or Egypt.

Western expats buy goods, like cereal, joghurt etc. imported from the West, not only those, but some. They are expensive.

Now ,non western expats may also buy western goods, but probably stick more to those items similar to or from their countries, they are much cheaper than those imported from the West.

Then we have different diets, due to taste, culture etc. For example, some Indian people are vegetarians (of course, people from the West are sometimes vegetarian too), so they buy veg imported from India, and those that are locally grown.

Now if you take a Western vegetarian,or non vegetarian, they might buy veg from Europe, and some locally grown stuff.

Thing is, many Westerners feel that the vegetables offered here ,locally and imported, are of bad quality, hence use a service, offered by some Expat ladies, that brings them fresh veg from Europe everyweek.

So, there are some reasons how food budget has to do with nationality. There are many more reasons, but it would take too long to post them all.

even me along with my diet cannot survive on 300 QR a month. I go to buy fresh veggies and fruits, and juices, some milks and yogurts every 2-3 days, and every time i leave at the shop around 70-80 riyal. So calculation is easy: at least 700 QAR a month - only for non-meaty meals..

but when you go out for the dinner, let's say even twice a month, it will cost you another 400 a month at least..

thanks for all your input, i guess it's really up to me to budget my food allowance so I can save money. :-)

I never liked eating in restaurants anyway so I might just cook at home.

I think the food budget totally depends on certain factors. First of all Nationality. The other is do you buy local products or imported. What are your eating habits. Do you eat filet steak or mutton? There is a food pricing section here on QL and check this and you will get your budget together.

In this 14 years of Gulf life, I have seen people living lavishly and hating their whole life and some others who control their expenses and loving their life too.

I knew a lady who spent 150 Riyals for her food and created a comfortable home for her family back home out of 1000 Riyals as salary, back in 1990's.That was 5 riyals per day!

There are a lot of hotels like Swagath, cafeterias, which offers 3 meals and 3 cups of tea, for 400 Riyals per month. The customers are quite happy, from what I heard.

A friend of mine made healthy choices like Broccoli( 30 riyals/ kilo average),which resulted in a very high grocery bill. She would order hotel food atleast thrice a week too which took away the benefits of Broccoli!

My family survived on home made food which was not "glamerous" with an exotic menu. We ate from hotels once or twice in a month. My trick was to invite people over or offer some food to our neighbours, which gave us the same "kick" we get when we eat out, minus my sweat!

Grocery bill can create a hole in your pocket if you make the wrong everyday choices. Speaking from experience.....

it is depending on what you eat usually -if you are happy with rice and cooked lentil all the month then 500 riyal will do

but if you wish to eat more than that then I would say you need 1000 riyal per month

Having used NZ forums for a long time where there is always useful info and people willing to offer advice I keep noticing posts like the one above from FriedUnicorn.

120,000QR is approx US$33,000.

What a stupid and unhelpful post.
